  • I think I was about that age when I got chicken pox. Yes, your husband can catch it and I think it's a lot more serious for adults than it is for children. You should have him see a doctor and ask if there are any preventative steps he can take. Good Luck!
  • You should keep your husband as far away from her as possible. Maybe he should go get vaccinated for it.
  • No, your husband is not too old to catch chicken pox. My wife got it at about 37, and very nasty it was - several spots merged into an abscess, and she had to have the abscess lanced in hospital. Generally chicken pox is worse the older you are. When my wife got that abscess, she was still breastfeeding our younger son, who also got chicken pox and hardly suffered at all. I think he was about 6 months old at the time. So, while I would certainly encourage you to consult appropriate medically qualified people, I would be far more worried about you husband than your daughter. If he can keep away from her while she is infectious, it will be a good thing. Our older son, then about 4, who probably brought it back from nursery school, got some nasty spots which turned into scars which stayed until his mid-teens, but did not suffer much other than the itchy spots.
  • Here is what WebMD has to say. " What causes chickenpox, and how is it spread? Chickenpox is caused by the varicella-zoster virus. It can spread easily. You can get it from an infected person who sneezes, coughs, or shares food or drinks. You can also get it if you touch the fluid from a chickenpox blister. A person who has chickenpox can spread the virus even before he or she has any symptoms. Chickenpox is most easily spread from 2 to 3 days before the rash appears until all the blisters have crusted over. You are at risk for chickenpox if you have never had the illness and have not had the chickenpox vaccine. If someone you live with gets chickenpox, your risk is even higher because of the close contact."
  • I have gotten chicken pox twice. The second time was when I nephew of mine had it and my husband who had never had it got it too for the first time. He was in his early 30s. You are never TOO OLD>
  • Yes, he can get it. Take whatever precautions are necessary to minimize his risk...it is much worse for an older person. Your daughter is not too young. My son had his tonsils out at 18 months, and was exposed to chicken pox while in the hospital. He got them shortly after he came home. <eyeroll> I hope you'll contact your doctor and get the advice of a professional on this. I hope things clear up at your house soon!
  • Yes your husband can definitely catch chicken pox from your daughter if he never had them...it doesn't matter how old he is. Chicken pox do not discriminate! Even if you have chicken pox but only have a mild case it is possible to get them again. I should know, I had them as a kid (mild case) then when I was 25 my son came down with chicken pox and I got them again. Boy was I covered that time...in my ears, throat, nose, all over! It was terrible. I also ran such a high fever I was almost hospitalized. My doctor said I hadn't built up enough of an amunity to the virus. Your daughter isn't to young to have chicken pox either....mine caught is as well, at age 6 weeks! It was scary but thank God she was okay. I hope everyone feels better soon! Good luck to you....have patients, you'll need it!
  • My son was 4 when he gave me chicken pox. I broke out with them before he did, but he was at a play-date with a kid who ended up with them, so that's where I suppose it all came from. I was in my mid-20's. My (then) husband got them also, even though he had them as a child. Then my two younger kids got them at the same time (they weren't here yet when I got them)....that was great to get it over with all at once that time! They were 3 and 4 years old. I'd still call the doctor and make an appointment. There's not much the dr. can do for them, but it should be in her records.
