  • I can't think of any common nuts that are bad for parrots. We always gave ours just about every nut we could, even the Brazilian nuts. They would play with those for hours. Palm nuts are excellent for breeding birds.
  • My parrot loved all nuts. I could never find any information about any being poisonous. Her favorites were cashews.
  • There are no poisonous nuts BUT there is a bad nut.... Peanuts are the worst of all nuts & should be avoided. It's often used as a cheep filler for comercial bird but it isn't the best nut to buy. Because peanuts are grown under ground they can harbour some very harmful funguses. This makes them dangerous for birds. Almonds are one of the best nuts to offer. You can get more nut information here: http://eclectusparrots.net/seedsnnuts
  • All nuts are safe for birds as long as they are in raw or roasted state with NO SALTS OR ADDITIVES. I am including a list of what is toxic to birds. • I own a B&G Macaw and am no expert here, but here's advice: Her beak started to peel and my avian vet asked what I feed her. I replied: Her favorite is bananas, then some pellet mix she doesn't eat, a noodle mix with cooked beans and peas which she picks out the noodles. She tosses out any other fruits or vegatables I tried, only bananas she likes, and also orange peices, but all she does is suck the juice out and toss the rest. Vet told me, no nuts? I said yes, there's some in that pellet mix. She told me I was starving my precious Sophie as she needs nuts and she's a macaw, so also it's entertainment to her to break them out, thus, I buy in bulk a 25 lb box of mixed whole nuts every few months. Macadamia nuts are told to be a Macaw's favorite, however I have dog to which these nuts are lethal, so other than that, no worries on nuts for your parrot, just your dog. =)
  • I saw the lists of things poisonous to a parrot, but folks, be real here! Avoid those things as much as you can, but you don't need to live in a bubble or raise your bird in one. Take all the advise given seriously, avoid poisoning your parrot with these but don't jump off the bridge either. Life changes I made was to start making Soy Candles, those are safe for birds, and also better for your home and yourself. Only clean the oven when you can open all the windows so those toxic fumes will be diluted. Take precautions to save your parrot distress, but also know they'll adapt to small amts too provided you are keeping them healthy. Don't feel like to own a parrot you have to change your entire life. They are life changing in themselves and you will do your best! Most parrots already know what food is bad for them and they won't touch it. Case in point... I cut up a cabbage and love the core, so shared part of it with my parrot. She took it and dropped it like a hot potatoe without even "mouthing" it first like she usually does. I was so worried when I bought Sophie 2 years ago as a baby, so I read up on everything she couldn't have and made sure I knew what to avoid, but as time goes on, I forget, but she knows! Don't live in a "bubble" with your parrot! They are a part of your family and your household, just try to make some changes to accomadate your parrot's health so they will outlive you!
  • no, almonds aren't poisenous, nor are pistachio nuts Macadamia nuts are a Macaw's favorite, but they will kill your dog, so don't buy those if your Macaw is like mine and accidentally drops things out of her cage.
  • ignore the post about peanuts, those are fine for parrots. I give Sophie my B&G about 6 per day added to her whole nuts bowl and in addition to her other daily stuff I feed her. Quit being so scared, people are weirdo's. If it's bad for them, they won't eat it anyways!
  • No nuts are poisonous to parrots....why everyone typing up lists of stuff? I got a list for ya! Don't hit your parrot with an iron, she'll bite you back Cut her wing feathers so she don't need the Fire Dept called to get her out of the neighbor's tree Don't call your Aflack agent up in front of your parrot and say, "Hi Aflack" as she'll say Aflack over and over and think she's a goose! When taking your parrot to public places, make sure those that want to hold her know she'll poop on them, but never you! Take your parrot to your local Cell Com office, they love it and will give you a better deal on your cell phone. Put some rowdy music on, put your parrot on your arm, and rock! She'll jive with you! On a nice day, set your Macaw on top of a snow bank, then she'll help you make a snow man. Buy a colapsable wire portable dog cage, so you can take your parrot camping with you. Instant cage! Never believe people who say peanuts are toxic to parrots. They are silly! Take your Macaw with you when you shower...just keep your shampoo off her. for more tips on fun things with your Macaw, email me back @ debbien@charter.net
  • Deez nuts! (Sorry. I couldn't stop myself.)
  • Aspergillosis is a very difficult-to-treat disease that can affect parrots and other birds. Aspergillus species are a type of fungus found in peanuts because they're grown in the ground. this is what can make them unsafe but not poisonous generally. Generally no nuts are poisonous to parrots but I doubt those who've lost a parrot to peanuts (& yes it has happened) would appreciate any comment about keeping there other parrots 'in a bubble' so to speak.
