I close my eyes, relax, and focus on the hynogogic imagery, the shapes and forms you see when you close your eyes. There is an... inner field of view, which reflects what your eyes see when you are a awake. When you are asleep, it is this... screen that shows you your dreams. The inner screen has a wider field of view, since it is not restricted on the sides by your eyelids. With a little practice you can learn to detect when the field of view widens and you can even encourage yourself into that inner state. But that's just a trick. The real answer is to stop your mind from obsessing about whatever is keeping you awake, whatever is bothering you. For that you will need some sort of psychological/spiritual/religous catharsis.
