  • No, I didn't meet my paternal grandfather until I was grown and my maternal grangfather died before I was born. My mom took me when I was 4 though and I have loved it ever since. Fishing is my Valium..catch 'em and throw 'em back...it's not the fish, it's the fishin'. ;-)
  • Yes, he taught me how to fish with a bamboo pole. Caught my first snapping turtle with him. 3+ Great memory for me , thanks!
  • Sadly, No. My paternal grandfather died before I was born and my maternal grandfather died when I was around 6.
  • No. One had passed on prior to my birth and one had no interest in fishing with me. My cousin took me and we had a great time :)
  • i didn't really no either of my grand dads. my dads dad died befor i was born and my mums dad was very ill, so no.
  • Oh no... My Grandfather was more the type to get drunk and share his self pity with everyone in the form of beating people with hoses so as not to leave a distinguishable mark. Man I come from good stock huh?
  • Yes. My paternal grandparents used to have a cottage and my grampa and dad would take us out fishing often.
  • Many times on the Detroit River
  • unfortunately most of my grandparents (apart from one grandmother) all died either before i was born, or just after i was born.. i missed having grandparents.
  • All the time...My paternal Grandpa was a hunter/fisherman. He had retired from 3 different jobs and was enjoying his cabin. I would spend summers up there fishing in the lake. He passed on about 6 years ago and I inherited the cabin...I still go up there, but fishing in the lake just isn't the same. +points for the nostalgia :)
  • no. my grandfather was too busy traveling for business, although he did get me nice toys while abroad. he died when i was 12. never met the other one.
  • Yes all the time. Papa was the best bud ever. He was a very strong man but a very gentle man.We fished together, camped and prayed together. He held me, hugged me, kissed me on the cheek, spanked me when I needed it. He made me honest, responsible and led me to Jesus. I raised four sons just like he raised me. Now I have grandchildren who get the same loving and discipline. They are wonderful. Now I suppose that same person is going to suggest calling the "proper authorities" to say spanking is abuse. God put that extra padding on the behinds just for that purpose. I am a good man, my four sons are good men and my grandson is a wonderful young man. We all were disciplined with love and respect.
  • My maternal Grandmother was the only grandparent who survived to see me born.
  • Yep! Lots of times. He owned a houseboat at Lake Powell, us kids used to spend the summers up there.
  • No, he never did that - but he was a good man.
  • No, he passed away before I was born.
  • Neither grandfather did, but one uncle did and afterward he said he's never do it again.
  • My grandpa took my brother, and he even let my brother use his expensive pole. They had been fishing before, so grandpa trusted him, yet this time when my brother got tired of fishing, my brother throw the pole in the lake, NO grandpa NEVER took another one of us fishing after that.
  • No, one was a mean spirited drunk who use to tell me that I had the brains of a louse. The other was a wonderful man who took me on many adventures and taught me many things, but fishing was not one of them. For some reason he didn't like the idea of me being around the river. I'll never know what his reason was and can only guess. :)
  • They all died before I got here. :(
  • Both my maternal and paternal grandfathers died when I was very young. I barely even have a memory of them.
  • No never although I didnt like fishing nor do I like it now :)
  • Yes! And he taught me how to dig up nightcrawlers. Carried those with us in a coffee can. I made him put them on the hook for me at first .. and even caught fish .. but then made him get the fish off the hook. Finally could put the worm on myself. Never did get any good at getting the fish off though. Then he taught me how to scale thema and all that "afterwards stuff". And of course, we got to cook then eat them! :) Hurray for his rowboat .. and the river .. and a patient grandfather!! :)
  • almost every Sunday when I was 13 and 14 years old
  • yes....don't remember that well cause I was young; he passed away before I would have been able to remember...but my dad told me he took me.
  • i never saw my grandpa!
  • One of my grandfathers did when I was about 3 or 4 years old. I wish I could remember the entire day. My father's side of the family had a great cookout with the fish, lobsters and crabs that were caught. That was in Massachusetts. My other grandfather died when I was 2 years old. I don't believe he was an outdoorsman.
  • Unfortunately not, both grandfathers died when i was very young, But the stories my parents tell of them more then make up for it. :)
  • Yes Yes Yes. My grandpa was my best friend. my dad took off when I was young so my grandpa was the only dad I ever knew. He taught me everything and answered every question about life, God, sex and integrity. We talked when we fished or just enjoyed being together. I still miss him after he passed 40 years ago. Kids need grandparents. Their wisdom and gentleness adds so much to kids lives.
  • Never.
  • yeah we used to go fishing all the time
