I honestly don't know. But i have a vague idea. A full stop is also know as a period, and a full stop symbolises the end of a sentences. So perhaps they call it a period because it is supposed to be the end of when a woman can get pregnant that month (though not strictly true.) However, thats just some vague random idea, not fact!

"Period" refers to a time frame. You will also note this in sports. So, the menstral period is the time a woman is menstruating. We have shortened it to simply "period". I'm a font of useless trivia and BS.

BEACUSE YOU SHOULD JUST STAY OUT OF HER WAY. PERIOD
-
Because a period is a punctuation that indicates power and making a statement. Therefor it was the ideal choice for the time. Exclamation Point was in the running for a while but it was to long to be meant for a shortened version.

its like a certain amount of time? like in sum skools, period 1, period 2, refers 2 da lessons, here, every month after a certain amount of time, a woman has her period, dats wot i tink anyways
-
Because it is the 'period' of time that a womans body makes so many changes. All of the changes are made in a 5-8 day period. Same reason its sometimes called cycle...because at the end of the cycle the body flushes it all out and begins again...fun ain't it
-
period the red dragon the rag aunt flow this sucks lots of names but only one says, no sex PERIOD!
-
Wow. Menstrual cycle and mentstraul period are completely interchangeable. It has merely been shortened to 'period', and sometimes you may hear just 'cycle'. there were some interesting theories on here though.
-
i never really paid attention, but a period is a time frame so thats how it came to be i guess
-

-
it's a time period. the period within the 28 day cycle when your uterus is sloughing off it's walls of blood and tissue build-up. Think of high school and how all the classes were called periods....
-
Just the time period of her cycle.
-
It's the period by which you shed cells from the uterine walls to prepare it for firtilization and pregnancy. Now...Isn't it just easier to say period? It's like Rufus Xaviar Sasparilla on school house rock!
-
Because it happens periodically.
