I would say as long as you watch her from your house, and if your neighborhood is safe then i see nothing wrong with that

If there is a locked gate, and bars on windows, and other saftey devices, you should beware, it usually means the neighbor is not safe. How does she feel about it? Some lst graders are more mature than others. Are there no other children in the complex? Maybe she can walk with someone else. go ahead and walk out to meet her, the exercise will do you good.

Every area and every person probably has a different idea of what is "neglectful." Personally, I would be leary of letting her go by herself, mainly because even if you're watching her, if someone had seen her going by herself, they might have a plan to grab her. If you're watching her, you might be able to describe the person who took her, but you'd never be able to get out there quickly enough to stop them.

I doubt it is illigal but if I wasn't 100% sure about it being safe I wouldn't take the chance.....I am sorry but it is a messed up world.
-
Depends on your neighbourhood really. Perhaps there are other children she could walk with? Or perhaps you should take her for a couple more years. 1st grade - is she 5?

I am one of those who would have to walk her because cars drive by all the time and grab kids right off the street and sometimes right in front of their own homes. I would watch her get on the bus and have piece of mind.

Considering what can happen in a matter of seconds I'd say never let her out of your sight until she is safely on the bus.For her sake as well as your peace of mind! My daughter is 15. When I drop her off at school I still wait till I see her walk in!

I would not say illegal or neglectful, BUT I would walk her there - this day and age. Better to be safe than sorry, but I am a worry wart.
-
I would not let her go alone.
