Does it show anything on the gauges? Does the throttle 'go out' on you? Lots of Fords show slow warning signs of timing belt failure by dying randomly on hot days as the belt stretches and screws up the valve timing. That would be me #1 guess unless your coolant temp is skyrocketing before it happens (thermostat).

Could be a ground fault then.. you should really check with a trusted mechanic, you don't want to screw around with wiring harnesses when they can point out failure with OBD.

Change the ignition module located on the side of the distributor. Its shorting out when it gets hot.

I have the same exact problem with my 1994 Taurus Wagon. I have changed the Catylitic Converters, coil, computer, and the computer temperature senser. It still does it and has been doing this for 4 years.
