  • Why was I downrated? I was only asking a question that I am very seriously concerned about. This is no joke, I am serious. Please someone help me and answer. Whoever downrated me, Jesus loves you and so do I. :)
  • I wouldn't think the Bible is against using medications. It's probably looked upon the same way as alcohol. Don't abuse it. Jesus drank wine, and theres nothing wrong with consumption. It's getting drunk and losing control of your actions thats bad.
  • I don't think it's wrong to take medicine for proper use. It can help us if we are sick. Sorcery is the use of black magic according to a dictionary. It probably means not to use drugs that may harm your body, like abuse as a major example.
  • Firstly I don't think the question should have been downrated, its an honest question. I don't pretend to understand all of the bible, and everyone can read it in a different way anyway. To answer the question, I don't happen to think that the term sorcery was used to mean medicine, I see no problem with taking things to help us that lets face it God himself ( or herself, keeps options open ) put here for us. :-)
  • Dear "Only a sinner saved by grace",thanks for asking a very good question which worths spending time on. I think it mustn't be about medicine, because God's commandments have always led us to a better life.God's love to human makes me sure of it.I believe that scriptures just can't contain illogical commands. So I believe that it doesn't mean medicine, and I do agree with others.
  • Medicinal drugs are OK, it is the recreational drugs and "drunkenness" of taking too much to be able to maintain adequate self control.
  • The Bible teaches about healing. God looks upon doctors and nurses as healers and compassionate people. We have so few of this in this world we live in today. If a doctor prescribes a medicine to heal the weak or sick then God is for it. If the person wants drugs(RX's) because of addiction or street drugs then God frowns upon it. Sorcery in the Bible is meant for praising and honoring other God's and use of magic for healing. Socery is the calling upon evil instead of asking God or Jesus for help and praise.
  • Matthew 15:10-12 " It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."
  • where does it actually say in the bible that sorcery means drugs?
  • This is a touchy subject however, if you believe in god, then you also believe that he created us in his image. Do you really think god would give humans the ability to learn and expand their knowledge if he didn't want us to use it to improve upon life? Since the body is a temple for the lord (according to scripture), then drug abuse would most definitely be a bad thing. However, medications to keep us healthy and to prolong life shouldn't be viewed negatively. Since, as humans, we can't perform the miracles stated in the bible that jesus did, the next best thing is to learn to heal ourselves. Being a pharmacist shouldn't be viewed as negative either. • I think I may have missed that part... where is it? I'm afraid I need to know where you find this idea before I can provide a more helpful answer. (though some of those already posted seem pretty precise!)
  • The Greek word "pharmakia" literally means "drugs", and appears five times in the New Testament: in Gal 5:20, Rev 9:21, 18:23, 21:8, and 22:15. "Pharmakia" is translated into our English Bible as either "witchcraft" or "sorceries". We also get our English word "pharmacy" from the Greek word "pharmakia". In each of the above five passages, "pharmakia", or "drugs" is listed as a work of the flesh of man as opposed to the Spirit of God working in us. For example, Gal 5:16-23 in the KJV: 16 "[This] I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft ("pharmakia" or drug use), hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance (self control) : against such there is no law." The King James Bible translators translated "pharmakia" as "witchcraft", because almost no one but witches and sorcerers used drugs 400 years ago. Drugs were most commonly used in pagan worship to hallucinate and to try to get in touch with evil spirits.
  • Jer 46:11 Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt: in vain shalt thou use many medicines; for thou shalt not be cured. Mar 5:25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, Mar 5:26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, Jam 5:14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: Jam 5:15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Notice you will be saved and your sins foregiven. Not kept ALIVE!!! Mat 10:39 He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. Rev 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Rev 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Rev 22:15 For without are dogs, and (((sorcerers))), and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. So IF YOU HAVE EYES TO SEE & EARS TO HEAR. DRUGS ARE DRUGS. WHAT? THEY ARE OK BECAUSE THE WORLD SAYS SO.JESUS IS COMING BACK AND HE LOOKING FOR FAITH.IN REV. IT SAYS PLAINLY DRUG ADDICTS ARE OUTSIDE THE GATE, GOING TO HELL!!!
  • Timothy in the bible was told to "use a little wine for the sake of his stomach and his frequent cases of sickness". Okay, so this is alcohol, but druggery as used in the scriptures, includes the opening up of our mind to anything, as given by the illustration Jesus gave, of a man who cleaned out his house, and a demon after leaving brought back 7 others. We shouldn't have such an empty mind. The drug-use in medicine is for a purpose. The drug-use with sorcery was to induce trance-like states for performing illusions, and other things. This is why it is wrong to get high on drugs. It isnt that the drug will get us high, but the fact that the reason we are taking it is to empty our minds and allow anything in. It is foolish, and does not allow us to use our full senses, and we lose our thinking faculties. Same with alcohol, as it is misused to get drunk with. The Bible doesn't say dont use it, but condemns the drunkard as a foolish man, and says they will not inherit gods kingdom. Also, Luke, the beloved physician, is spoken of in the Bible.
  • ALL things where put here for the good of the people. sin caused it to be what it is. all medicines were only meant for HEALTH PURPOSES ONLY. not to get high and hallucinate. the scripture of "its not what goes in its what comes out" refers back to the meat of the old testament.
  • Is your faith in God strong enough to cure disease without medicine? Then how is your faith strong enough to get you into heaven? Take the medicine you doomed sinner. You time here is short.
  • God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so." And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (Gen. 1:29-31) (No prohibition of any drug is made in the Ten Commandments: See Ex. 20:1-17) I have a lot more if you want it! Many drug compounds have chemical matches in the plant world. God made the receptors in us. Sorcery has more to do with following the spirit world rather than God, and this is expressly forbidden. Out of curiosity, why do you think that medicines are sorcery? What are your biblical references? I was so surprised when I really started really reading the Bible. We add so many "do not's" that we forget that God MADE most of this stuff already! Did you know that marijuana is part of the recipe for Holy Annointing Oil? Qaneh-bosm=cannibus. The King James version mistranslated it to "sweet calamus." My son is studying theology, and is learning how to read ancient Hebrew. We blindly listen to men who choose to interpret the texts to support their position. The Word of God is what should be followed. He does say that we aren't to abuse and intoxicate. See the New Testament guidelines for disciples of the church. Hope this helps.
