  • I get called Britney for some reason.
  • Yes , Peggy instead of Patti , no matter what + 5
  • my computer teacher never called me sandra even after i told him but i felt bad cause he was old so i left it alone
  • Not for long, though when I first started working here my boss kept calling me Jason for no apparent reason. Then a couple months ago when another guy joined the department he kept calling him MY name. Go figure.
  • Yes, people screw my name up (my "proper" name) all the time. Instead of admitting they either forgot it or can't pronounce it, however, they just substitute by calling me something random. Usually "Anita". Wtf?
  • Yeah..my boss at work keeps calling me "Laureen"!
  • Yes. my grandmother. To her I am Coleen.
  • My mother...when I would call her on the phone she would always call me by my older sister's name. She would do it through the whole conversation.
  • Yes, an elderly neighbour insists on calling me Shona, she phones the house and asks for Shona, sends xmas cards to 'shona and family', even though i send her one from Sharon and family LOL
  • Sure. Mrs Mac at my college cafeteria made the best bread and always baked cakes for students' birthdays called me "Tim" because it is spelled like Tom and she knew a guy that looked like me named Tim. Sometimes I correct people. Sometimes I just answer to it. Many people have many names for me. I try to learn their voices. Mrs. mack was so sweet, she could have called me "Ugly" and I would have gladly answered.
  • In the last 3 times we've spoken, my father has called me 'Ian' (my brother who has converted to Islam and has for 24 years been known as 'Mohammed'), 'David' my eldest brother, and 'Sam'. I've no idea who 'Sam' is, although I think it could be the name of a dog he knows. Not surprisingly, my father has always known what my name was (his birthday cards to me are faultlessly identified as mine). He does tend to call me something other than my name when we speak, however, and I gave up correcting him long ago. I know it isn't his age - he's called me 'Ian' since I was 5, and often 'Christopher', 'Ian's' middle name, and once when I was 10 called me 'Anne', (one of my sisters). He sometimes calls me by my middle name, although he's been told several times over 35 years that I don't really like it. I'm similar, I'm sorry to say, although I lack the carefree artistic way he makes free with people's names. Perhaps evidence that absent-mindedness can be learned?
  • If it's simply an oversight and they aren't TRYING to tick me off or snub me....I let it go.
  • Yes and I refuse to acknowledge them. Once I have corrected them, if they call out to me by the wrong name I won't answer or even look in their direction. I will NOT be out a-holed. :P
  • I get "Shelly" constantly, and "Chelsea" sometimes. It doesn't bother me if it is our first or second meeting, but after a while it gets annoying.
  • Yes all the time nobody can pronounce my full name and I get all sorts of strange attempts at pronounciation.. After trying to correct them I just say its ok everyone calls me by my shortened version anyway that saves further embarressment.
  • Yes, I can't stand it. I either stop answering them or I call them a stupid name.
  • i had a teacher in college for about a year before he suddenly started calling me "linda" for a few months, then right back to calling me "kelli" (which is my name.) very odd, i don't understand the brainfart but at least all my grades were correctly applied. there was no linda in that class btw.
  • I have a fairly odd name anyway, (which I will not mention here), but I have always corrected people even as a small child. However, in my late years I have no patience after two corrections my response is "I have told you twice what my name is, if you cant remember, or if you dont care, then do not address me further." Then if they still get it wrong, I either call them by a wrong name, or ignore them.
  • People mispronounce my name ALL the time. Somehow, they get what sounds like "Tamera" from "Tamara." It drives me nuts...there's no "E" in my name, so don't pronounce it like there is one. People who continually mispronounce my name stop getting "polite" reminders after two or three times and I start getting rude. I have no patience for it; if you don't want to pay enough attention to me to learn to say my name properly, I'm not going to be nice to you anymore. Pardon my crankiness...rough day lol
  • I AM that person occasionally! I dont know but certain people i just never remember their names, no matter how many times i have met them, i keep calling my bro girlfriend louise and its vicky, they been together a year! to be honest if they never get your name right its because they dont actually care or want to listen.
  • Yes, there are a couple people that can't stop calling me April
  • Yes. Oh yes. I'm terrible with names, myself, but I'm usually close. I have NO idea how she managed to come up with some of the names she did. And each time I had to correct her, and gave her a simplified version, and tried to be reasonable, and each time she'd come back with a completely different name... ARG!
  • My mom;)
  • Yeah, my sister's friend's mum!!! She keeps calling me by my sister's name and I'm thinking 'that's not my name'. I have corrected her many times, but it got to the point that I just can't be bothered anymore 'cos she's never gonna remember, is she?!
  • Oh my god, yeah. Usually I just give up and start answering to it :) Ah. About a week after I answered this, I spent a whole night being called 'Ainsley'. Gave me a laugh, at least.
  • Not me, my name is pretty easy, but people contantly call my son by the wrong name. My son is 9 and we still have relatives that call him the wrong name.
  • Yes! It bugs me, but I have an unusual name so I try to be forgiving when people mispronounce it or call me something different altogether.
  • My name is Kenna, and my roommate at art school last summer called me "Keena" for two whole weeks!
  • Can, canty... It's my name. I've told you already, more than once, that it's Cantras. If you can't be arsed to get it right then I can't be arsed to hang out with you.
  • Yes, by my teachers when I was in school. I was never Katryna, but "Katherine". It took many of my teachers a very long time before they began calling me by my actual name.
  • Since i was small people call me by my 2nd name which is Janese, pronounced "JUN" "NIECE" ..but people always call me janice? "jan" "nis".. its kind of annoying but im bitchy so i correct people rudely so they wont 4get it or they wont say my name at all, haha.
  • Yes! , My accounting teacher constantly calls me Shawn, and its Sean, and by saying it. There is no difference but anytime she writes my name on something she spells its wrong, Theirs only 8 people in our class too. I've corrected her multiple times too. I'm not even irritated, I just find it comical:P Good Question!
  • No, not my first name. But my last name gives them hell...most of the time I don't correct them though.
  • I don't care. A name is a name. I have known this dude for like ten years that calls me Leonard. And I kinda gotta be on my toes cos he has been known to call me Daniel before too.
  • Yes, but sometimes they are teasing me. Here is something funny, though. If my Mom is with a friend most of the day or her little sister. She will eventually in the same day either call me by her sister's name or call me by her friends and vise versa. I asked her once why she does this, when she knows my name and she knows her sister's and friends names. She said she didn't know, she just thinks that she has me on her mind or them on her mind. Who ever she is with. I hope this makes sense as I'm tired.
  • yes. people tend to pronounce my name wrongly although i correct them 101 times :P
  • My boss calls me "Sarah" all the time! She never can remember my real name! I have gotten to the point that I answer to both names! : )
  • Yes. I don't know why people have any difficulties to remember something as easy as "Bieszczady".
  • I get it all of the time, especially at work. I'm at a call center, and a lot of people don't always listen. I'll correct them once or twice, then I just give up. Not only do people think my name is a nickname, it's also a name that can be a man's name or a woman's name. I had a call last week where my client didn't hear my name. He asked me my name again, and then said "Oh, I thought I was talking to a female" to which I answered "You are!" He then asked me what my name was short for, and I just repeated my name and he started laughing..all embarrassed. So he got the gender/nickname mistake all in one call!
  • yeah, my last name is pronounced "Wear um" not "where ham". It's a lifelong battle
  • No, but I have called my neighbor "Angela" for a good year before I relized her name was "Kathy" She didn't even tell me!! She was like "I didn't want to be rude" If it wasn't for getting her mail one day, I wou;d still be calling her that. I'm not even sure why I didn't know her real name. But she looks like an Angela.
  • Yup, my second cousin can't even get it right! haha! I just stopped correcting him! But my friend does for me. I just laugh, he still gets it wrong!
  • Yeah. I'm Tommy and a chick called me Tony. I corrected her so she called me tony again. So I broke her frickin nose. I still feel proud
  • My high school Spanish teacher always called me Penny rather than Patti. I don't know where she came up with that, but it annoyed me to no end.
  • yes. But,I just let it go not worth stressing out about.
  • i went to school with a total a**hole who repeatedly messed girls names up and called them by different names..i spent thirteen years of school with this person and he called me a different name our junior year and after a "polite" look in his direction he apologized but continued to do it to other girls.
  • I have spent a lifetime being called the wrong name or having my name mispronounced and mis-spelled. I have given up on the polite corrections a long time ago. Two of my brothers have the same problem - we were "blessed" with Dutch names, but do not live in Holland. I once managed to get my point across by calling someone "hey you" - she was fuming, and came over and said "My name is not 'hey you', my name is _____", to which I replied "and my name is _____" . She never called me the wrong name again.
  • my name is jessica, and my spanish teacher has called me two inncorrect names. michelle and maria. i know he got michelle from a girl who looked similar to me... but the maria, idk.. he mostly just did it to frustrate me.. and after a while it really did...
  • Yes, the minister who was marrying me and my fiance...he kept calling me by my fiances ex-girlfriends name all through the rehersal. so when we were going through the actual ceremony and he opened his bible there was a piece of paper with my name in big letters so he would remember my name...
  • Yes, my last boyfriend. It took months for him to get it right. He has (thank God I knew about it) verbal dyslexia (so does my mom). They say cabinet when meaning drawer, etc. My name starts with the hard sound "K" and he did best with soft sounds remembering. My poor mom just stammers and pretends it didn't happen, but my BF makes it into a comedic routine. It doesn't really matter that much, as long as he recognizes me in a crowd and keeps making me laugh.
