  • Certainly. It is predicted by some that within a decade, AIs will pass the Turing test. Once that happens, there will be no need for receptionists, customer service representatives, etc. Slowly but surely AIs will improve. They can already beat people in chess. Within a few years, I'm guessing, they will win in go. There are some roles that it will take a very long time for machines to get into. For example, an AI wouldn't make a very good graphic designer... yet. I'm confident in the power of AI.
  • I do not believe so. One of the most interesting books I've ever read is "The Emperor's New Mind" by Roger Penrose. http://www.amazon.com/Emperors-New-Mind-Concerning-Computers/dp/0192861980/ In it, Penrose proves to my satisfaction that there is some aspect of human intelligence that cannot, as yet, be duplicated by computational machines. If there is an unexpected breakthrough in Cognitive Science, then that may change. But that would be a breakthrough on the order of the discovery of Quantum Mechanics or Relativity.
  • I am confident this will happen. Although we'd need to be able to control the AI with some sort of on/off switch so we don't have the outcome in the film The Matrix, whereby humans had to torch the sky to stop solar power reaching robots who overthrew the humans. Thus having them resort to eating human brains to get their power and setting up fields of humans purely for fueling purposes. Eventually the robots created a smokescreen for humans called The Matrix which to everyday humans looks like a real world, but, is in fact a computer program. You might also want to reference the Spielberg film A.I starring Jude Law who plays a robot gigolo and there is an all out war between the humans and robots. In some cases people couldnt tell the difference between a small boy robot who had real feelings which complicated matters somewhat. I hope this helps :D
