Levels are a clever method of addicting you to AB, as are points. Initially you move up levels with as little as 40 points. Currently, It takes about a 1,000 points to move a level above 40+. You will get thru the first ten levels very quickly. You can hold your cursor over the bag in your profile to see how many points you need to move up a level. There is no limit as to how many people may occupy a level, and points are what moves you up. They are free. Give lots away! The real measure of your status is your RANK in AB. This is also on the profile page. Only one person can stand on a rung of the ladder at a time. As distinguished from badge numbers where many people may hold the same level. I have already explained levels to you, the round orange circle with a number 4, this mean you are a leve four Novice, a newbie if you will, newbs can level relatively quickly, but the higher the level you attain, the more ratings you will need to proceed to the next one and so on.

Points are used to rank questions and answers. You give points to provide feedback to others. As you accumulate points, your rank on the site, your badge, and your level will change. The number of points your feedback is worth will also change.

One thing that I have seen it do is to validate opinions..points show agreement/appreciation. It is nice to agree and not feel alone in how one thinks. I am not talking about the questions that need statistics and facts but those that just simply ask what you think on the matter. It feels good to find similiar thoughts even if they are not perfectly matched. It does a level thing that I think the majority go up in and if you spend enough time on AB and are not offensive, mean, rude or crude... you will climb. It is fun!

i think that a levle is a rank of achevement. like i my air cadets squadron, my level is 2 (the level means howmany years you have been in) and my rank is corperal. that could be like here on this website.

I cant believe you are a Level 9 Contributor and don't know that. Anyway, when you ask questions or give answers which others on AB (Answerbag) like or agree with, there is a chance they give you some points (Mind you, they MIGHT give points). They either mark it as Helpful which earns you points or Not Helpful which takes away your points. These points are added totally and the number of points you have decides your level on AB. The points you lose or gain depend on the level of the people who marked your answer or question.

Now i know what levels are ive been a member for about 1 hour..and ive got a rating of 5 on my question.

The level you are is based on the number of points you have, which you get when you answer or ask questions. To get to the next level, you have to get a certain number of points. Look up more questions about it. There's one that I know has a chart with it, but I can't remember how it's worded.

Right now 95 levels are existing, with Firebrand holding the current highest level. I think AB is the only questions and answers website with a seemingly never-ending number of levels. On Yahoo Answers, the highest level is Level 7.

Answerbag does not have a finite number of Levels, we just keep going and they just keep upping the required points on each level. 95-96 required 20,600+ points. Nobody knows what the next Rank will be called until after it has been reached so we will not know what level 100 is called until somebody has reached 100.
