It seems like a cool way to keep this format honest. In other words, I think it will go a long way to keep the answers helpful. I use this forum to get legitimate answers to real questions. I can't stand it when people get goofy with their answers. Thanks for keepin' it real, Answerbag!

I can't edit the question, so could you at least let me know why its a bad question? I just was looking over the whole site and the level and ranking didn't make sense to me, or are they not working correctly at the moment? Just rating something negative without a reason is quite rude. (unless you already agree with a reason someone else has given)

By having good answers and questions rated up. When you are rated up you get so many points...the more points you get the more you level up. P.S. Good luck...and have fun!

If you answer a question and the person who asked it likes your answer, he gives you a rating.

Ask lucid questions that are useful/helpful to yourself and the community. Answer questions with useful/helpful answers. Other users rate you based upon your answers.

Ask a GOOD, sensible question...read other questions to see what is asked. Check your spelling and your grammar! You can edit the question for up to 4-5 minutes if you see a mistake you made. Just go back to it and click on EDIT and correct your errors. If people think your question has merit, they will give you points usually. Since your question was a logical one to ask for a beginner, I will give you the maximum number of points I can give. Other people might also give you points without leaving an answer. Answering questions in a sincere and helpful way will often get you more points than posing questions. If you like the answers to your question, you have the ability, and it is common for you to gives positive points to the answers you feel are good replies to your question. That is the common thing to do anyhow.

You get points when someone rates you "helpful". So you need to give good, sensible answers and questions to get points. Like I did now to your question. You get negative points if you spam, offend someone, or do anything useless. The points you get from a user varies from what level he/she is. When you get a certain amount of points you level up. The levels are: 1-2 beginner. 3-4 novice. 5-9 contributor. 10-14 whiz. 15-19 authority. 20-29 expert. 30-39 professor. and as Glenn said, 40-49 brain. 50-59 is Sage. 60-69 is now Maestro. When you ask a question, many users will answer them usually and you can rate them up too! Those are the basics and I warn you this site is HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!!!

Yes, this site is cool. If you think of a question to ask, then do a search in the upper-right hand corner of the screen to see if it has already been asked. If you don't find your question on the first one or two pages, then it's likely that your question hasn't been asked, and it's fair game to ask it. This is not such a question. You get points for providing answers to questions that people find insightful, helpful, clever, or sometimes they just agree with. It is easier to get points with answers as opposed to questions; people often neglect to rate questions. The key is in adding something to the discussion. If you do that, the points come automatically. Also, make sure you award points, and be thoughtful about why you're taking them away - it's usually nice to post a comment explaining "why" if you do. Good luck and do well. This site is not really about who has the most points, but it does make things a lot more fun.

The way you earn points is to answer someones questions. It's simple, if you know the question, answer the person's question. And you earn points answering one's question. I'm gonna get points for answering your question! :)

You have to give good, helpful answers. People give you points for them if they are.

Just keep answering questions, and ask some too. There are times you will get points, no points , or even someone might not like your answer and take away points. Just keep it up and you will get some.

By answering questions with useful. well thought out answers. The points will accumulate on their own. Points may also be awarded for asking questions, but I personally never rate questions. What I think is a stupid question may be useful to somebody else. I only rate answers.

Moderating is a fast way of getting five points per. I prefer answering ans asking. It is more fun.

Ask as silly a question as you can think of that will be easy to answer for as many people as possible, especially if the answers don't need to be informative. Examples - What does your shirt say, right now? What does the 3rd line of page 18 of the nearest book to you say? You'll have made the points you want, but you'll have added nothing worthwhile to your existing knowledge. I think you'll get more enjoyment if you don't get into a race for points.

Probably just not trying. I really don't give a monkey's about points. I find reading people's comments far more interesting than looking at numbers. And somehow I ended up a sage, which is apparently a good thing - so there you go.

It's really the moderation that comes around, but you will need to devote the time in order to do that. You will also need to know where are the wrong categories, see any nonsense, or spam/offenisive questions, and so on.

sadly its often from asking stupid or mundane questions that have been asked a hundred times in different ways. Or from congratulating people. Or from asking loads of questions just for the sake of it.

... ask a conversational question about a very common thing, get many answers from many AB users, each of which adds more points to your question (while you keep asking more questions, for even more points) ... ... just click and check the profiles of a few of the top people here, you will usually see far more questions with over a hundred points than answers with over a hundred points ...

To earn points people have to rate your question/answer in a positive way. You can do this by clicking the + sign beside every question/answer. I usually give a + if the question is a good one, or the answer is good or it makes me smile.

By asking and answering questions. I find I can earn more in the answering part. Look through some of the catagories and note the type of question that has drawn the most interest/points. Then ask and answer that type of question.

It makes you want to stay if you see your self climbing up the point ladder but I've also learned that you can lose them just as fast as you can make them so be careful out there.

Why worry about it? They're just points, you can't exchange them for anything valuable and you can't take them with you. It is of more value to make friends here IMHO. If you must have points. Moderate (see THE TROLL's answer) or ask a lot of questions that require litttle thought (as stated by Dirigo). Welcome to AB.

Just keep asking and answering questions. You can also moderate which gets you some easy points. but there's really no need for the points. they're not worth anything and they don't mean anything except numbers on a little screen.

Some people here are quite stingy when it comes to giving points, so the best way to get points is through moderation. You can flag questions as miscategorized, nonsense, duplicate or spam/offensive. Be careful though because you could be sent to the Penalty Box for so many rejected flags.

Well - you have to either ask questions that have people answer or you have to answer questions that people see as being good.

Well you already know how it works. but the fastest way is get people to like you so as where they are looking to answer your questions or feel good about you answering their questions. learn it is a give and take relationship. those who do not give response and or points to those that offer answers or ask good questions will find those people will not point or respond back. You want to give good post rather it be a question or an answer. good as in where people can relate to what you are saying. A good rule is treat those you met here like you would like to be treated. you want point but do not give points your not going to move up very fast. someone answers your question it is a good thing to show them is that you acknowledge their opinion. Just asking a question and moving on will not make people respond well.

Like any other Q&A site at first you must answer the best to your ability & thus obtain more points from several users. Take your time, read the categories and pick the ones you best like. Then within said categories read the questions that got the most answers that will give you a question format to use. The same answer format applies. Look for good decent people who you would like to have as friends, there are very many here in AB. Ask them to be your friends and they will lead the way. Good luck to you. Cheers.

The more answers you give, the more points you may recieve. The more questions you ask (that are good and follow rules) the more likely they'll be seen and rated. just be truthful and answer the best you can. Lies and prejudice are not tolerated. hint:homework questions can be very annoying. just have fun. you'll get more and more as time goes by
