Help answer this question below.
Ask good questions, and give good, thoughtful answers, and you'll receive points. Don't forget to thank those who answer your questions, and award points to their answers and to other questions, too. Others won't give you points if you're not giving any out. . .
It seems like a cool way to keep this format honest. In other words, I think it will go a long way to keep the answers helpful. I use this forum to get legitimate answers to real questions. I can't stand it when people get goofy with their answers. Thanks for keepin' it real, Answerbag!
Pleeeease can somebody explain to me who a member who has only been on the site 1 day, total points -27, answers 9% positive! but is level 5 already???

Obviously I am not a pro at this subject because I should be more advanced with my points- or let's say: I am not willing to apply methods so many AB'ers use because I want to stay satisfied with myself.
From my observations, the quickest achievements are asking simple to answer questions. I like questions where a discussion can emerge, and by commenting back and forth and really thinking about it - but that is no way to climb the ladder quickly. Another good way is to ask questions of common interest, like national games, national holidays and so on, having it phrased politely and responding well. A third way would be to awaken the curiosity of people. I once asked what others think I just threw away? Well, well, that went surprisingly good.
Well you already know how it works. but the fastest way is get people to like you so as where they are looking to answer your questions or feel good about you answering their questions.
learn it is a give and take relationship. those who do not give response and or points to those that offer answers or ask good questions will find those people will not point or respond back.
You want to give good post rather it be a question or an answer. good as in where people can relate to what you are saying.
A good rule is treat those you met here like you would like to be treated. you want point but do not give points your not going to move up very fast.
someone answers your question it is a good thing to show them is that you acknowledge their opinion. Just asking a question and moving on will not make people respond well.
Ask a somewhat silly, thought-provoking question that can be answered in ten words or fewer. Those tend to get the most points.
By asking great questions, giving magnificent answers, and out moderating us all =)
Ask lots of questions.
Answer lots of questions.
Be helpful.
Be interesting.
Be funny.
Ask as silly a question as you can think of that will be easy to answer for as many people as possible, especially if the answers don't need to be informative. Examples - What does your shirt say, right now? What does the 3rd line of page 18 of the nearest book to you say?
You'll have made the points you want, but you'll have added nothing worthwhile to your existing knowledge. I think you'll get more enjoyment if you don't get into a race for points.
ask a really good, original question or give a really good original answer. :)
As long as your contributing with questions and answers the points will come. It is always a bit slow at first but in no time they will add up.
Of course if you are worried about the points it will seem to never add up as quickly as you would like. Best to just find the part of this site that makes you happy and take a ride.
The key is to enjoy yourself.
You get points for providing answers to questions that people find insightful, helpful, clever, or sometimes they just agree with.
It is easier to get points with answers as opposed to questions; people often neglect to rate questions.
The key is in adding something to the discussion. If you do that, the points come automatically.
Also, make sure you award points, and be thoughtful about why you're taking them away - it's usually nice to post a comment explaining "why" if you do.
Good luck and do well. This site is not really about who has the most points, but it does make things a lot more fun.
If you answer a question and the person who asked it likes your answer, he gives you a rating.
good answers and good questions!
Here is some good advice...
Answer everything you can answer, ask everything you can ask, and in your spare time, moderate wrong category questions into the right category. Oh, and give out a ton of points, they are free, and they come back, fo reel !
Moderating.
The top four people here: Firebrand, Kevin, Galeanda and yours truly, have tons of moderation points.
Some people here are stingy when it comes to giving points - they will not give you points no matter how good your question or answer is.
Someone has to give them to you, so you should ask and answer well.
You get points when someone rates you "helpful". So you need to give good, sensible answers and questions to get points. Like I did now to your question.
You get negative points if you spam, offend someone, or do anything useless.
The points you get from a user varies from what level he/she is. When you get a certain amount of points you level up.
The levels are:
1-2 beginner.
3-4 novice.
5-9 contributor.
10-14 whiz.
15-19 authority.
20-29 expert.
30-39 professor.
and as Glenn said, 40-49 brain.
50-59 is Sage.
60-69 is now Maestro.
When you ask a question, many users will answer them usually and you can rate them up too! Those are the basics and I warn you this site is
HIGHLY ADDICTIVE!!!
Ask a GOOD, sensible question...read other questions to see what is asked. Check your spelling and your grammar! You can edit the question for up to 4-5 minutes if you see a mistake you made. Just go back to it and click on EDIT and correct your errors.
If people think your question has merit, they will give you points usually. Since your question was a logical one to ask for a beginner, I will give you the maximum number of points I can give. Other people might also give you points without leaving an answer.
Answering questions in a sincere and helpful way will often get you more points than posing questions. If you like the answers to your question, you have the ability, and it is common for you to gives positive points to the answers you feel are good replies to your question. That is the common thing to do anyhow.
By having good answers and questions rated up. When you are rated up you get so many points...the more points you get the more you level up.
P.S. Good luck...and have fun!
It appears that flagging or asking 50 question a day are the best methods Suby :D
*Smiles*
Make simple questions which everyone can answer, respond every answerer with points, and answer to those who give you points or give points to the questioner after getting your points etc etc..
BTW,I am just answering your question.I am not following any tact out of those.Just have fun, share knowledge with everyone.+
would be interesting to see what the Chief said on this one Suby. Personally, just ask questions and answer questions. +5
Ask 3 questions then answer 5 questions and keep on doing that.
ask good questions & give good answers - simple
ask and ye shall recieve
By asking good Questions Answering as well and as many as you can .
Spend quite a lot of time on site.
Moderate when you learn how to do so correctly.
be polite and friendly thank people for their answers and do not forget to rate their answers to your questions.
Kiss the person's butt and tell them what they want to hear. Same as in real life.
Ask more good questions & give good answers.......+5 for the question.
By asking good questions and giving good answers.
People rate your questions/answers using the plus and minus buttons by the "rate this..." box.
It makes you want to stay if you see your self climbing up the point ladder but I've also learned that you can lose them just as fast as you can make them so be careful out there.
Involve Richard Simmons as much as possible.

Ask lucid questions that are useful/helpful to yourself and the community. Answer questions with useful/helpful answers. Other users rate you based upon your answers.
By asking smart questions and giving smart answers.
I buy them in bulk at a membership warehouse club!
By asking and answering questions. Others give you points as they see fit. It depends on whether they liked (agreed) with your answer a lot of the time. Some are spoilers. They just go and give negative points without reading the questions or answers. Each has his own method.
Me, I give points to those with good answers and do not worry too much about giving negatives.
I have found that keeping it light and trying to stay away from some of the morons that just want to argue. Apparently, they have nothing else to do and will try to do the whole "try to sound smart and show us how idiotic you are" crap. They will disagree with whatever you say just to get a provoked response. Sorry, I vented a little. So, keep it light and try not to get too involved in comments; its a waste of time and energy. Have Fun!
Don't know, what are they?
I think this is a very good question. You can make many points on one question if you can come up with something that will interest people your own age. Chances are they will want to know what you do. Don't be discouraged if you don't because there are thousands of questions on here and if you can get one or two people to answer your question, you are doing well. Hang in there and ask more question.
Ask questions and answer questions. Remember that AB is NOT a game. There are REAL people behind a LOT of the questions, who need REAL HELP.
Oh... Don't ask questions that have been asked a million times before. ;-)
Ask and answer dumb conversational type questions...
You ask better questions and give excellent answers.
Like this +1
Ask good questions and give good answers. The more points you get, the higher you'r level and the little badge changes :-)
You answer questions, or ask good ones. People who like your question or answer give you points.
Devote your life to this. lol.
People...just people...go...and click on the + button...over there. -->
Either for a question or an answer.
One can also get negative points; the - button.
As one progresses in levels, more points can be given at a time.
One is only allowed to "point" a particular user 25 times in 1 week regardless of how many points each time they point...(wow, that doesn't make any sense.)
please dont rate me down for this because i love helping pople but i find that the best way to get points is to answer questions about sex and relationships
Ask good questions and answer questions with good answers - See http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/2469384 and http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/2449041 for MUCH more about AB.
The more answers you give, the more points you may recieve.
The more questions you ask (that are good and follow rules) the more likely they'll be seen and rated.
just be truthful and answer the best you can. Lies and prejudice are not tolerated.
hint:homework questions can be very annoying.
just have fun. you'll get more and more as time goes by

I always give people points, but rarely receive them..
by PrincessErin1986 on August 29th, 2009
What do you think the problem might be? I notice that your % of positive ratings given are kind of low at 71%. People might be reacting to that. Your question and answer percentages are good though.
by gtravels loves her life penguin on August 29th, 2009
I would like to give my best compliments to PrincessErin1986 for the commnets and i have also noticed that i have been observing that after i have given the answer for the questions there is no awards.
