Get a professional (or someone who really knows what they're doing) to give your PC a tune-up. This may involve (but not be limited to) the following: -Check free hard drive space -Check Windows firewall -Virus scan -Use Autoruns to clean up applications that start with Windows -Research processes that are running -Go through add/remove programs and un-install unused programs -Clean out registry -Turn off unneeded services -Install & run spyware utility -Disk cleanup tool -Run Scandisk (error check your hard drive) -Defragmentation

Try programs like CCleaner and spybot to clean your computer and defrag often, increase your ram, change your HD if it is slow to a 5400rpm or 7200rpm model. If laptop is more than 3 or 4 yrs old get a new one.

Use disk Cleanup. - make sure all the boxes with numbers in them are checked, and wait for it to complete. I even go into it twice if i wanna be doubley sure.(Start, all programmes, accessories, system tools disk cleanup) Remove any un neccessary programmes - Control pannel, Add/remove programmes. Make sure you have current and upto date virus/spyware protection. I use Avg, Ad-Aware, A-squared, avast and Wincleaner. I find they work really well for me. Run these programmes (no not all at once!) and make sure your computer is free from such software. Make sure windows is uptodate. This is where i would start.

Depends on what the problem is. Is it slow on startup? Slow loading programs? Slow on the 'net? Do your programs crash constantly? Do you get memory errors? Each of these problems have unique causes, so simply saying "how can I make it work better", doesn't really help us understand WHAT is going on and what the underlying problem may be.
