  • They want to be noticed
  • Basically, they're afraid of not being accepted for themselves.
  • Because they are dissatisfied with who they are, and want to prove something to themselves.
  • To impress other people, but eventually it backfires on them.
  • In order to become who they truly are.
  • How can you tell? Perhaps they are trying to find themselves.
  • cause their life stinks so badly, they gotta lie to make it seem better to everyone else, and themselves in the end... sad really. people should embrace the bad with the good, it's cheesy but it works!
  • Because thier afraid that people won't like them if they knew the real them
  • because they feel like they dont exist and they want to be noticed and liked by others...
  • In addition to the more obvious reasons, I believe many people do this because they honestly don't know who they truly are. It takes some people quite some time to come to realize their authentic selves.
  • They don't like and accept who they already ARE.
  • I think it comes down to a number of things. Like singwell said, they're probably so unhappy with the person they are that they make an effort to be someone else, who they see as a better person. Similarly, they may be fairly happy with themselves, yet think that other people are not. So then they try to change who they are to suit other peoples needs, possibley to make up for a lack of attention they feel they are recieving.
  • Mostly because they are afraid that people won't like who they are. They want to be acceptable and accepted. Let's face it, there are some classes/groups that do their best to portray themselves as the best, richest, prettiest, smartest, and take it upon themselves to "set the standards" that they rest of us are supposed to follow. And they do their best to deny other people entry into their group because of a perceived lack of education, breeding, social status, (I am not even touching upon colour, religion or ethnicity), so some people come to believe that they are less because they do not or cannot reach these desired "standards" and so they try and 'fake it'. We all do it at sometime in our lives, trying to fit in to a social group, whether at school, at work or socially. Maybe we should form a social group/class of people who are just as they are and then welcome anyone in who is just as they should be.... Wanna join?
  • coz people want to be a part of a larger society which sometimes resents the real you
  • Maybe they are in a witness protection program and can not divulge who or what they really are.
  • They see their selves as weirdos and try to fit in with hose that stand out as "COOL" and sometimes its done because they dont want to be on there own!
  • They want the benefits without doing the work. Very human.
  • if they are tying to be something it does not mean that they are not... it means they are still practicing at becoming a professional whatever it is they are trying to be.
  • I don't like The Pretenders, either.
  • because they dont like what they are
  • It's to cover up all their flaws. I know a few people like that. They make me sick. You can see right through it too.
