It never really got that bad here, comparatively, but people still like to complain. But, things are still looking better, regardless.

It's 11 Sept2009 in England, and for me, the answer is no. I have been out of work for 4 weeks. People said after the summer holiday things would pick up and they have not. I know a friend whose team of 22 have all been given redundancy letters - 6 will go in 6 weeks time.

No, I still hear about people losing their jobs and trying to find other income. My company has just started talking about layoffs.

Yes, the Phoenix Metro area has recently been moved from the the number 10 spot for foreclosures to the the 13th so that was a step in the right direction.

Our Main economic influence is gold mining, it never even budged, the current market is hurting the ranchers. And our taxes are bailing out the rest of the state so local government is still hurting, sucks for our local schools, etc.

in appalachia, we've got double the unemployment, higher drop out rate than many inner-city schools, and factories keep closing up and shipping off to overseas destinations. i think that the unemployed are grateful for the unemployment extensions and medicaid ... but, no new jobs on the horizon. sadly, between having lots of space to cook foul smelling chemical concoctions, and poverty, my county has the distinction of being the methamphetamine lab capitol of the country!!!

not really, still have companies folding up and people out of work. I live near a "rich" town and their crime level has recently went up. Gas stations drive offs and break-ins were a big deal there until recently, now it's getting to be almost a trend.

Actually, yes. The reasons are complicated. It has to do with real estate, recreation, and retirees returning to their "home grounds" after working elsewhere most of their lives. They return and build new homes rather than purchase others. That stimulates the building trades...and gives new local tax revenues. Recreation and tourism is increasing, providing new employment...and entrepreneurism, as well as more cash flow and retail sales. We have lost some manufacturing, but the gap is being filled. It is one of those "localisms" mentioned before, keithold.
