  • Obviously they do have that right, but I don't think they should have that right.
  • I wish that those who are trying so desperately to have the government legislate morality, would also realize that if they prevail, the government also reserves the right to tell them when to have sex, in what positions, for how long and with whom. You know what they say, be careful what you wish for cause you may get it!
  • I believe if people didn't act so FOOLISHLY, that the govemrnment would have much BETTER THINGS TO DO.
  • When the majority of the people keep saying that they don't want gay marriage, then, yes, the government does have that right. It should be noted that there is not one single state in the Union where gay marriage has been approved by the people at large. It is only legal in some states because a small body of judges decided to overrule the voice of the people.
  • Considering that every time legalized gay marriage is put up for a vote and it fails every time; I would say that it has every right to ban it.
  • I dont think they should have that right. To me it is discrimination. Any two adults should be able to get married.
  • The government has passed laws the require it to not decriminate against anyone in the USA by race, creed, age, or sexual orintation. Refusing to allow gay marriages is therefore in violation of this law also this goes against the Constitution of "Right of privacy" If you take the anti-descrimination laws the government regardless of level MUST issue a marriage license to ANYONE who walks up to the counter at the marriage license offices, regardless of race, creed, age, or sexual orintation, or they are in violation of federal law. I am not gay but I fully support their rights to marriage the same as anyone else. Love is love regardless of sexual orintation, race, creed or age.
  • I think the government should butt out as this is an individual's personal sexual preference and is not harmful to anyone else. As advanced as US military hardwares are, the government is still among one of the world's most primitive in terms of its believes and policies. When you are born with a physical abnormality, they sympathise with you but when you are born with a mental quality that is different form the mass, they pick on you and what made it worse is that the Catholic church actually helped to fuel that homophobia by seeing it as a sin. How can it be a sin when your so called "God" wired your brain that way at conception? The government is only out to win votes and sadly the majority of Americans still thinks it is a sin since they are predominantly Christians or are of Christian parentage. These majorities are not going to vote for any gov't that welcomes gay marriage so the minority gay couples will have to put up with this primitive society that is not that far from the one that used to burn innocent people alive (accused of being witches)in the name of their religion.
  • No they don't have the right. But they are the government so they do alot of stuff people dont think is right. Some is right, some is not right. But things like this just need time. I'm sure it will be passed soon, Interracial marriage used to be banned at one point and now look where it is :) Keep your head up.
