I do! I beleive I had it with my second child for a year about. I always loved my child but didn't want to go out and face the world. I wouldn't even let dad help with baby. Things got better as he got older and I started to socialize with the world again. But of course, with all them hormones changing drastically after a baby, postpartum is a real possibility.

I certainly believe that sleep deprivation can cause extreme depression. In times past, there was always a sibling, a mother, an aunt, a neighbor lady, an older child, or someone to watch the baby for a few hours so a new mom could sleep. In modern times, new mothers seem to be incredibly isolated and often have to cope on their own. I think it is terribly important to give a new mother relief for a few hours at a time so she can get enough sleep to cope with the demands of the baby.

My ex had it for 1 1/2 years plus her usual MI diagnosis. Just lie in bed for most of the day.
