  • Hey I used to work in a tat shop and I've pierced many of those. It's not that bad the thing we worry about most is it could cause infection easier for some reason (not sure why) and also with a gun they could pierce the wrong part as far as it could be off alittle or not be straight. I don't think it's a big deal it's just btter with a needle. Just be sure to clean it really well a couple times a day and rotate the jewelry ever so often. Places like that on your ear can get a little difficult with keeping it clean they get infected easy! Hope that helped some.
  • its a terriblr thing. it shatters the cartilage. if i where you id take it out straight away and go to a respected piercer, unless you want probelms in laer life. plus, a gun cant be sterilised. you can catch anything
  • You got it pierced with a gun? What kind of place did you go to *shocked* That is REALLY bad. It can shatter the cartilage, could get infected really easily, there won't be enough space on the earring for swelling, the earring probably isn't titanium or surgical steel either. By the way, if it gets infected then there's a chance one side of your face will be paralyzed. There is a nerve in that area. Having your tragus pierced with a gun is f*****g terrible. (Excuse the french ;) )
  • yes yes yes! it is the worst thing anoyone can do . first of all-the gun cant be sterilized second of all-it can spread something to you and third- it can shatter your cartilage
  • Yes it is a good thing people sometimes just deserve what they get.
  • I got mine done eith a gun & its fine!
  • its the worst thing a piercer could do. it will most likely shatter the cartilage and more likely become infected as its not sterilised. go to a professional piercing studio where the piercer has at least 3 years experience with piercing people properly
  • that's not a good thing. guns shatter cartilage and cause additional swelling and bruising.
  • that's not necessarily a bad thing...it's just that most places do needles because guns are more prone to infection for some reason. just be sure to clean it regularly
  • I got mine done the first time with a gun and it got really infected, was very painful. It eventually cleared up and I had no problems, but after just a yr and a half it grew out. Had it done the 2nd time with a needle and they were horrified to hear that I had it done with a gun the first time and also said that that was probably why it grew out the first time as they can't get the piercing deep enough.
  • My friend's mate had hers pierced with a gun and it did shatter the cartilage. Not good! I'd say the place where you got your piercing probably have no idea what they are doing have not the proper training or experience. Your cartilage obviously hasnt shattetred otherwise u'd know about it, but just keep an eye on it and keep it really clean with your aftercare routine. Next time you get a piercing do some research so you know what to expect and know when its not right! good luck!
  • Most ear piercing places now do not use the guns that you have to cock back and "shoot" the earring through. Now they use one that requires you to use your own hand pressure to push the earring gently through. Also with those kinds of guns the earring comes in its own cartridge in a sterile package; the gun doesn't actually touch your ear.
  • hi im thinking of gettin my tragus pierced just after new year thing is i have a phobia of needles. ive been told i can get it pierced with a gun, but a mate said its reali dangerous un can shatter the cartilage is this true??
  • i haven't gotten my tragus pierced but i think a gun is perfectly fine. i've had 3 cartilagde percings and my cartilage has never been shattered or deadly infected. i wouldn't worrry about it. :)
  • i live in Australia. here many places do not do any piercings besides ears with a gun. even lower end tattoo shops. they can carry infection and cause damage to where you are piercing. but some peoples piercings are perfectly done with a gun. just your luck i guess.
  • 1. Never get cartlige pierced with a gun, it can shatter the cartlige. 2. The risk of infection is greater because the gun isn't sterilized after each use, only a new jewlery cartrige is put in the gun. 3. The people who pierce at a mall are not trained and have not taken a board of health class. 4. The jewlery used in a gun is NOT cohesive for a piercing like that. You need room for it to move to alow for possible swelling and to let the medicine get into the hole.
  • No, not good!! The tragus is a thick piece of cartilage, and the studs used can shatter the cartilage. Also they are too short to use in case the tragus should swell. There is no place for the swelling to go, and the stud could become embedded.
  • I thought i would get it done with a gun until a new needle was taking out and i asked her why she wasnt using a gun and she told me that they cant be cleaned thourouly enough and her only okay for your ear lobes.
  • I got my tragus pierced recently. I know it's said you should never pierce with a gun, but even though my 'piercing tech' really didnt want to use the gun, I insisted, because after getting an industrial piercing earlier this year and listening to horror tales from a friend who said it hurt like hell, I figured i couldnt bother with he pain. So she used the gun, and then removed the stud and put in a surgical steel one which of course had to be bent. My ear feels fine. So hopefully no damage has been done. but even tho it can be dangerous, i know a LOT of ppl who have it done that way,(cuz i live in a third world country where technology and laws are not as sophisticated as the US)so that's how lots of ppl do it!
  • I recently had mine pierced with a gun (last Sat.). My 'piercing tech' was not pleased about this, but i insisted bcuz i have had an industrial piercing and a friend of mine pierced her tragus the other day and said it hurt badly, so i insisted they use a gun. She used the gun and then tok outthe knob and replaced it with a surgical steel ring that she bent at the back. So far it's fine, not swollen etc. IN fact dangerous as it may be, many ppl do it that way) I wouldn't take out the ring, just keep it clean.
  • That can be dangerous! just because those "gun" they use can not be cleaned properly. i say with all piercings go to a tattoo shop. just because they are a lot cleaner then the mall and the health department visits regularly
  • The tragus contains cartiledge. You might wish to read about such piercing at the Wikipedia web site. Cartiledge can be damaged or become diseased, it seems.
  • I had my done 7 days ago, the man did it with a gun, which at the time i had a feeling was the wrong thing to do. As i know it can shatter the cartilage. However i went to the shop that i had always got my piercings from (tougue, belly, ears and top of the ear) with only one of them being a problem, which was the top of the ear (also a cartilage piercing.) I was in and out of the place in 3 minutes, wasnt told how to look after it or anything. As soon as i saw it in the mirror, i said to him i didnt like it, as he had basicall piercied my face! not at all where he had marked. So this could be where accuracy isnt a strength of using the gun. I went with a friend that pierces at claires and she was shocked, she said firstly he shouldn't of used a gun because its unhygenic, and also they should have cleaned it for me afterwards as i still had the pen mark on my ear. My ear was fine untill i slept on it, and it swelled up, it was huge! Aching pain, swelling spreading to my face. Any time it was knocked it was extremely painful. 6 days later woke up with red and yellow puss all over my ear (not sure what this is about) But it goes to show how unhygenic the gun is, i believe mine is infected, and is still not sure what to do with it. But before doing anything like deciding to take the piercing out go back to where you got it done and seek advice, and also to another place (maybe where they would do it with a needle) and get there opinon, as to what to do.
  • yes. very bad! You can easily get infections from guns and it also takes longer to heal. Sometimes it even shatters your cartilage, can be crooked, and be more painful.
  • iv got mine done 6 days ago wiv the gun! i didnt no it was terrible. what are the symptoms if it was 2 become infected obviously its a bit sore and they say 3 months 2 heal u guys help me out!!!! please im propa paranoid now
  • I had my tragus pierced with a gun back in 2004. It is now 2009, I have a perfectly healed tragus, no infection, keloids, etc etc. It did take a long time to heal though, about 6 months, and it did swell but it went down within 2 weeks. I won't say it was the proper way to pierce it, but I'm living breathing proof that it didn't affect my hearing, face, or life :)
  • As long as they didn't use a hollow-point bullet, I don't see why not. :)
  • the guns are dirty!!!!! they cant get them completey clean
  • it can com out all wrong. alwayz go 2a tattoo shop nd use a needle
  • its the worse thing and anyone who disagrees is very ignorant and uninformed. Also what kind of place does a tragus with a gun??? if you walk into a piercing shop and they pull out a gun leave immediately
  • if it didnt bother you then it was probably okay
