  • Even sole custody fathers can be ordered to pay child support, when he makes more than the mother. I've seen many such cases in 20 years of working with them. You don't go for joint physical because of the money. You do it because of the children.   • If you make substantially more money than the other parent, then yes, you would still need to pay child support. If you both make about the same, then no. At least that's what I was told by a Family Law Lawyer...
