Boobies a group of seabirds, closely related to the gannets. They belong to the order of Pelecaniformes,an order of medium-sized and large waterbirds found worldwide. This order is distinguished from other birds by the possession of feet with all four toes webbed (totipalmate). Most have a bare throat patch (gular patch). Boobies are large birds with long pointed wings and long bills. They hunt fish by diving from a height into the sea and pursuing their prey underwater. They have facial air sacs under their skin which cushion the impact with the water. They are colonial breeders on islands and coasts, and normally lay one or more chalky blue eggs on the ground or sometimes in a tree nest.
