  • Unless you use your VCR 24/7 it sounds like the heads on your VCR just need cleaning. You can do that with some Q-Tips and some regular alcohol (the kind you use to clean pierced ears, etc). They may make a VCR cassette tape that cleans, I'd check with your local Wal-mart or similar store. Also, if you still have your VCR book that came with the VCR (a good reason to KEEP ALL BOOKS) it is one of the diagnostic questions in it. Most older VCRs used to have a self check for just this condition. It happens a lot when you rent VCR movies and they made a built-in 'fix' to stop the 'flicker'. Hope this helps.
