When my Mother made some ice tea, she put it in a large glass jar then the large glass jar exploded. Why did this happen? The ice tea was hot.

The tea could have been too hot for the jar to handle.

If the jar was cold, extreme temperature changes will shatter the glass.

The tea was too hot to be put in a glass jar. Either the tea should have been allowed to cool a little first or a metal utensil should have been put ito the bowl first to take up some of the heat. You should never put very hot liquid straight into a glass container unless the glass states it is suitable for boiling water etc.

My father experienced the same thing with a jar not too long ago, it almost cut his hand. Just one of the mysteries of life. He would like to blame it on the Devil but I think Satan has other things to do besides breaking glass.
