  • You have the Constitutional right to bear arms. Any law requiring any sort of permit is un-Constitutional.
  • Yes. Most gun dealers in Indiana use an "On the spot" system for background checks. This means they have you fill out a background check form, and then use the form to access a database either by phone or online. You are not required to have a handgun permit to buy the handgun. You are allowed by Indiana law to posess the handgun in an unloaded and properly stored condition only from the place of purchase to your residence.
  • The U.S. Constitution is a hard document to interpret, and it's certainly not absolute. If a right allocated by it or its Amendments compromises domestic tranquility, among other things, the right can be narrowed. Vote!
  • From 1994 - 1998, there was a mandatory 5 day waiting period imposed by federal law. That law expired in 1998, so now all that is required is a background check (which can be done on the spot). Indiana does not have a state law requiring a waiting period. Thus, you could buy the gun on the spot.
  • As a resident of Indiana, possessor of license or not, you may not purchase a handgun in the state of Washington. To purchase a handgun in the state of Washington, per federal law, you musht be a resident of the state of Washington for 90 days prior to the purchase. I moved to Washington from Arizona the first week in August. I have my lease agreement, utility bills, we licensed our truck in washington and both have Driver's Licenses, and I have a Washington Concealed Pistol License. I cannot buy a new handgun until November 5, which is 90 days from the approval of my rental on August 5, 2008.
  • In order to buy a handgun you'll need a few things: sometimes, not always, if its for first purchase from a store, they'll ask for your birth certificate. So buy that just in case, if you don't have it, bring at least two or three other forms of ID, like your driver's license, a photo ID or even a bill with your name and address. After the background check all there is a couple of short pages of paper work then you're set. Now, since you don't have a license to carry the handgun you will not be able to have it loaded in your car at any point in time. If you are traveling to go shooting somewhere it is a good idea to keep it in the passenger seat next to you in it's proper case with the ammunation stored in a SEPERATE area. And of course, you can never conceal the weapon on you at any time. I suggest you purchase a lifetime carriers license which allows you to carry the weapon as a protective measure. It runs about $ 75.00 to the state and $40.00 to your local sheriff's dept. Its a bit costly but worth it for a lifetime. Hope this helped>
