Elephants do like peanuts, but an elephant cannot live on peanuts alone. The elephant is the world's biggest land animal, and spends about 16 to 18 hours a day eating to make sure it stays that way! Elephants are vegetarians and can eat hundreds of pounds of leaves and branches a day. This salad is washed down with several hundred gallons of water. Elephants tend to favor fresh fruit, but they'll also eat peeled bark.
