I can’t help noticing how people spank their children with wooden spoons. Does it hurt to be spanked with one of them? I could never hit a child with a wooden spoon; I believe they are an implement to be used in the kitchen only.

It does hurt a lot. Not as much as belts do though.

A wooden spoon can hurt you, just like every other thing in the world if you put enough force behind it. I really see nothing wrong with spanking a child with a wooden spoon (if you don't plan to use it to cook with), pain is the idea in punishment, (please no one call me 'cruel' here, punishment and reward are the best ways to get someone in line, and many times reward doesn't work.)

This question reminded me of my childhood. Whenever my sister and I were acting up, my mom would pull out a wooden spoon (usually the one she was making dinner with) and threaten to spank us. She never DID though. We thought it was hilarious. We still tease her for it actually.

They do hurt quite a bit, although after one good spanking you tend to not misbehave as much.

My mom would spank us with a spoon... but when i look back, it never scarred me for life & in fact, i admit that i probably rightfully deserved every spanking i got (i was a child that ALWAYS pushed the limits. lol) As long as its not excessive, and as long as it is only used in certain cases (child endangering themselves like running into the street OR being completely out of control) But i am totally against the belt.

Hell, I would have loved a wooden spoon over the belt! The sound of my dad's belt slipping through the belt loops on his pants at high speed was enough to make me stay on the straight and narrow. I may have laughed at a wooden spoon.

My husband says yes...until it breaks. Then she has to buy a new one...and plastic ones don't break.... My parents never used one....I think my dad used a belt but I honestly don't remember the pain of the spanking as much as the getting in trouble and my parents making me hug them afterwards which I really hated at the time. :)

I know someone who was 'spanked' with a wooden spoon and they ducked, and the 'spanker' smashed the back of their hand onto the door frame and broke all the veins there. It was in the kitchen, too, by the way!

I'm still fairly young so if i misbehave my mum or dad will threaten me with the wooden spoon, they only ever had to spank me once and then i always listened. I think spanking is a good way to discipline children as long as you dont take it too far. It's idiots out there who take spanking to far and end up mentally scarring the child that give it a bad name.

My mother would line my brothers and I up along the dinning room wall with our trousers and underpants down and administer the wooden spoon on our bare bottoms. We'd scream and beg for mercy and it would sting quite a bit - but it never really did us any harm. And the threat of "do you want the wooden spoon?" would sure encourage us to behave.

Yes it hurts to be spanked with a woodenspoon but not has much as dad coming home and taking his belt out of is pants and then on your bare bottom.
