If a witness/victim in a domestic abuse case is served a subpoena to testify against the defendant, but does not want to, what are the rights of the victim? Is it against the law to not appear after being served? (Colorado)

A subpoena is a court order for you to appear in court. I would show up on the appointed date and at the appointed time. If you do not show up you can be in contempt of court,which can bring a fine/jail sentence.

She should contact the courts for help on this. They might be able to do a videotape interview for use in court or arrange for her to be in court on a different day/time than the abuser. She should make sure that the court knows she is absolutely scared to death of him. If she can get a physicians note that says that her health will be compromised if she sees the abuser than it will go a long way for this.
