What should be done about 19 year old who owes $14,000 in child support to mother of an 11-year-old girl? Whether the father or not, he has to pay once order is in place in 20 states, and had until child was age 2 in the other states. So he's hooked.

I think it's pretty rare for an 8 year old to father a child. I am confused...small surprise there..huh? If he supported the child until she was 2 that would make him 10 when he stopped. Who orders an 8 year old to pay child support? No man should be obligated/ordered to pay support for another man's child unless he had adopted the child. I MUST be misreading the question. What should be done? I think it should be laughed out of the courtroom. It's totally ridiculous.

He says he's not the father. The mother likely just picked a name and got a default order, as is quite common. If they allow him to get out of the order, they would be opening a major can of worms they are not ready to handle with 30% of men paying child support learning they are not the father. Women's groups have been pouring money into opposing men being allowed to get out of these orders. They managed to stop the effort to pass the law in Kansas in January, but in June, Missouri passed it with the 24 month limit.

He was 8 when the child was born? 7 when the child was conceived? I must be missing somethung here.

I am familiar with the case, there was an error, and he received notice that he owed child support. I think that the mother used a fake social security number, and it was traced back to him. they had the story on the news a few months ago, and at the time they were trying to resolve the issue. Sad part about it, the credit companies will actually put it on his credit report, regardless of how silly it is.
