  • I did not see Adware remover/blocker, spyware remover/blocker on your list. Adware is a program that generates pop-up ads and directs you to search engines and pages you don't want to go to. This can be considered a form of hijacking. Spyware are programs that spy on your moves while on the computer to gather information about you sending it companies who use it mostly to tailor ads to your shopping habits. However there are other not so nice reasons for both Adware and spyware. A tool you should first try: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ Lavasoft Ad-Aware Its a nifty program that you should use to scan your computer to find and remove Adware and most spyware. It is relatively easy and it is FREE (Really not a hoax) It is a type of program that does need updates often. If this doesn't do the trick then there are other options to try: I assume you are running Microsoft (Windows, 98, 200, Xp, blah). There are hidden files in the files, not just the so called "hidden files" I'll try posting this link: http://www.fuckmicrosoft.com/content/ms-hidden-files.shtml I said try be cause after www. there is a four letter word for fornicate which has been known to turn into *** due to profanity filters on other sites. - If that is the case I think you know what to change the four letter words into. Anyway that link not only tells you about hidden hidden files (Double word usage not a typo) and that page also directs you to http://www.bcwipe.com/ and a few other helpful tools to recover a lot of speed from your computer. However before you run to BCwipe please do read the first link to get a better understanding of the issue(s). I would like to say with the old 98 system I had last century I used BC wipe and my computer ran as fast as new for about 6 months when the mother board fried and we put it to rest.
  • Did you read about the people that tried to disrupt the internet recently? My computer seemed to be slower than normal and I read about this the next day. I think they affected everyone in some way.
  • Download Win Patrol and put Scotty the dog to work to manage you startups. It has info on each program as to whether or not they should be on startup. Also The Ultimate Troubleshooter is a great program that will help greatly at figureing out the problem.
  • How often do you defragment your hard drive(s)? You should do that at least once a week. You can also try clearing your browser's cache directory and your temporary files directory.
  • you can start by deleting your cookies, history, files, and temp files. start-settings-control panel-internet options
  • try and do a System Restore which will restore your PC to a previous point in time and that may pick up your speed. Deleting uneccessary programs or items you hardly use. You may want to go into device manager and check to see if your drivers are installed properly. USB controller or Network adapters (ethernet)
  • First thing to clear is what is slow with your computer: 1) is the startup process slow? (it could be too many installed programs that you do not use anymore) 2) do you just use your computer for going on the internet? Is it also slow when you are not connected to the internet? (for instance with many processes going at once?) - try a scandisk / checkdisk and defragmentation - clear your internet explorer cache 3) if the computer without internet does not have any problems, it would be something with your internet connection. Maybe internet traffic problem in your area or by your provider.
  • There is a free internet cleanup tool from a company called Aladdin Systems that a friend of mine added for me . It is very useful for easily cleaning all internet activity that slows down your system. Also you can't beat spy-bot or Ad-aware which can also be gotten for free. "Google" any and all of these.
  • This is a snap answer, but bear with me. Are you using Internet Explorer to browse the web? If so, just try an experiment. Download and try Firefox for a day or so. Is your web experience much better? Then IE is to blame. You may have a hijacked browser. Or some other IE related issue.
  • Virus software will kill your performace -
  • Well, first we need to establish whether it's your COMPUTER that's slow, or if it's your internet connection that's slow. Your question seems to lump the two together as if they are one single entity.
  • U might not have enough memory on your hard drive. U can buy one or try deleting some files.
  • may be your drive is full. you delete the unwanted files. as you tell that your speed is slow on internet please turn off automatic updates. whenever these are active these really affect the speed.
  • These are all good but you may want to check how many processes you are running also. And if you pust ctrl alt del to bring it up... if you're getting 100% or close you can scan the list to see what is taking the most. I've also found that running a p2p downloader w/mine slows it and w/netscape it gets slower and stops... eventually needs to be restarted.
  • make sure you only have one anti virus system running..I had two and didn't know it and it cause chaos... also you can go to www.speakeasy.com and check your speed.
  • Hi, i work for a company who upgrade/repair and load software for HM customs, also all Post office computers in England. The most common problem for speed reduction that i come across is there simply is not enough memory. Of course the size of processor counts-and what software you are running on your machine, but the easiest and quickest thing to check is your memory! Knowing more about your pc would help to narrow this problem down a bit, ie. what size and type of processor do you have? If you right click "My Computer" go to properties, click the "General" tab-you will find your processor spec and your memory spec. These are useful things to mention when facing a pc problem.
  • like all the rest of the man made junk the trash can out side and wal-mart is up the road...
  • 1) Just because your anti-virus says something, doesn't make it true. 2) Defrags and optimizers can actually slow down your computer instead of speed it up. 3) Your internet speed has nothing to do with your computer speed.
  • Windows Defrag has been proven to corrupt files instead of improving them, this is due to it moving files away from where they need to be and programs fail or ultimately the operating system no longer works, you get start up errors such as "File (file name) can not be found, please insert setup disc"... Defragging only really affects the time it takes the computer to find the files that it needs to work, defragging puts them closer together on the hard drive to reduce the time. This is one of many reasons why your pc may be slow, have you considered upgrading your pc components? Things like RAM and hard drive etc? This may improve your speed, RAM increases you computers ability to deal with tasks e.g. starting your computer. The higher the RAM the faster it is. I think the best way of putting into context is to imagine every mb of RAM equals 1 worker processing information, if you have 1GB of RAM that’s over 1000 workers and so on, the more you have the faster its going to be! With your hard drive make sure it’s a high speed one (7200 RPM) this increases the reading time of the files and the transfer is important. Static hard drives are now available which eliminates the worry of the RPM as there is not a disc involved. These are expensive though so don’t sagest it at the moment until the price goes down.
  • defragment your system and it really helps your computer work faster.
  • I am gonna tell you ultimate solution for it .CLick on Start button Select 'Run' and type 'msconfig' there ...Press enter Now a SYstem Configuration Utility windo will open...Select the last tab 'StartUp' Uncheck the unnessary programs and click "Apply'..Restart ur computer and see the affect Blessed201@gmail.com
  • Dude u have plenty of options.. 1.Cleaning up your Temp files. 2.Using a spyware/ adware remover. 3.u could do a registry clean. 4.A general pc clean up /Upgrading Ram.
  • All of these answers are good but the thing to remember is that Windows (any version) is a big bloated monster of an OS. One of the things Windows is most know for is that, over time, it slows down. It does this because of a problem called "repetitive bit errors." Over the life of the OS tiny errors occur and the Windows system is versatile enough to create work-arounds for these errors. The work-arounds do take a bit long then the usual straight path and as the OS gets older the work-arounds multiply and the entire OS starts to visibly slow. When Microsoft discovers a process that generates RBEs they are more likely to patch it with extra code rather than dig deep into the OS and write new code. All of this leads to OS bloat over time. I have been deliberately vague and non-technical but it is a real problem. All OSs have it to some extent but Windows is the worst offender. My recommend is wiping your hard drive and starting with a freash install of your Windows OS. With XP you can usually go for two years without a fresh install but with earlier Windows versions I wouldn't go for more than a year between re-installs. Vista is too new to tell but I don't have high hopes for the 32-bit version. Hope this helps.
  • Defragment your drive. Remove Temp files. Check how much drive space is left. Add more memory. Increase your swapfile size. Check for TSR's and disable the ones you don't use everyday. Check your startup files and remove unnecessary ones.
  • sometimes it may not be the computer at all it just may be the cable internet service, if the DB level is low it can result in a slow internet connection speed a call to your cable provider to have it tested may be in order or if you are running through a router perhaps other users are hogging the bandwith, of course it may be the computer and there may be legitamate programs installed that are hindering the speed you may want to get some pc tuning software
  • 1.First clear the cookies, temp files and history 2.Then Check the Ram (Right click on my computer, under general tab you will find the OS Version, Ram Size and Processor speed. 3.Then check the virtual memory. (Right click on my computer > Advanced TAB > Under Virtual Memory click change. 4.Make sure C: Drive is not full. 5. Go to Start >> Run>>Type MS Config>> Srart up window appears. Here those programs appears on start up, remove unwanted programs. Current suggested Ram should be 512mb.

  • I use this software for protection and is work for me: Windows Doctor, Spybot - Search & Destroy, Max Registry Cleaner, CCleaner and avast! Antivirus What is important thing: After uninstall every game or program, you need to clean up registry...because every time is something there what not to be :) WARNING TO ALL PEOPLE WHO HAVE VISTA 32bit: ------------------------------------------------ I have Vista Ultimate 32bit sp1...my advice: Dont instal sp1, I do it and now I have huge bug...everything is gone crazy, so I need to start over again, instaling Vista but this time without sp1. From beginning it's ok...but after some time...vista dont want to listen. Example, you need to open folder in "same" window, but he open in new window, after that you look at the folder options and everything is ok. Microsoft still work on patch for this kind of bugs!

  • Open your computer and clean it up, second add more memory, check motherbaord for that type of upgrade. Second make sure no other program is running while you are on the internet. Also disable adds-on, and that would make your computer run faster. Get Trend Micro Internet pro, and use pro features, and that would help you some more. 0 Gravity Computer tech

  • uninstall your antivirus and keep the disk and do a scan every month that should be fine also u need to control alt delete and run msconfig goto the tab that says startup and disable everything that should really give u good performance or just reinstall window
  • Could just be your connection needs optimising or your getting interference from something. If you've an old router then this never helps either
  • I would first use a tool like speedometer to test the speed of your internet connection. Is it slow, or is your computer bogged down? I would next check to see what is running in the background on your computer, and what fraction of the cpu time is being wasted by what applications. Is the problem disk access? Is your hard drive heavily fragmented? Is it almost full?
  • Download CCleaner and run it several times a week. Free wonderful program. You will see a difference. You probably don't clean your computer often enough. CCleaner.com. If you want to keep your log-in info cookies leave a "Cookies" box unmarked. Mark up all the boxes you can for cleaning.
