If it is a small hole you can do this. Get some fibreglass joint tape, it is a mesh type tape. Cover the hole with the tape, one side of the tape is sticky so it adheres to the wall. Then with a taping knife apply a coat of joint compound, covering the tape. You want to hold the knife at about a 15 degree angle to the wall and pull the blade down. feather the edges with the blade. Let this dry and apply a second coat if needed. After the compound dries lightly sand until smooth. If you have a texture on the wall you can get a can of knock down texture spray. Follow the directions for application. When the texture has almost dried take the knife and knock it down by running the blade over the texture to flatten it. you want to hold the blade the same way as when applying the joint compound...Prime and paint and you are good to go
