  • Please go to a doctor and make sure you don't have thyroiditis. That's a virus that attacks the thyroid gland. There are many types of viruses and diseases that can affect the thyroid. A virus can cause pain or it can be painless. Swelling is a typical symptom. The gland is on the right and left side of the neck. It's possible for only half of the gland to be affected. Your doctor may refer you to an Endochrinologist who specializes in glandular illnesses. It's important that you go to the doctor because many thyroid illnesses turn out to be progressive diseases which can worsen slowly over a long period of time.
  • You're fine. Stop pressing on your throat. You probably have a slightly swollen gland. The weather's getting colder and causes that. Resist the temptation to grab your throat with both hands and strangle yourself to death.
