  • Depends on what the infection is (bacterial, viral, fungal etc) and where the site of the biopsy is. If its a shallow skin biopsy that isn't too bad but if you have had a biopsy in a very well vascularised part of your body such as liver of kidneys this ggreatly increases the chances of the infection becoming blood-borne and progressing to septicaemia, which can be extremely serious. Due to the possible danger I would never wait that long, I would get it checked out ASAP and hopefully be put on broad-spectrum antibiotics if aninfection was still suspected on exam. The problem with infections is that it can be a while (few days) after starting a cullture from a smaple for a pathogen to be correctly identified, by which time the infection may have spread or intensified. So the antibiotics (again only if an infection is thought of as a possibility) should be started before complete positive identification.
