It's absolutely not a waste of time--when you answer a question, regardless of how long it's been posted, it is added to both "New Q&A" on the main page and the New Arrivals list, where many people see (and hopefully rate!) your answer. Also, adding an answer increases the likelihood that the q/a will be retrieved in a search. Though you'd think the person who initially asked the question may be long gone, we've had folks return after long periods in response to an email informing them of a new answer to one of their previously unanswered questions.

NO! It revitalizes it. Perhaps the highest rated question is simply "What do you look like?" It pops back up almost every day.

I'm not really sure. Run it by the answerbag category and see what happens. I guess its up to the people who post them to go into their file and check the ones they want to have removed.

I'm pretty new here, but i really appreciate mature and thoughtful forums. I believe that any honest answer to a question, no matter how old, is useful. I hope both to teach and to learn by visiting here. As to ratings, they don't mean a lot to me personally; i think answers should stand on their own merit and yet knowing how useful others find them might tell us how we're doing. Please keep answering any question you feel qualified to tackle. The next one might be mine :) Thanks

I think it is never a waste of time if you answer a question, even if only the asker would read your answer. And even if nobody would read your answer, it is not so good, but you can also consider that you answered the question for yourself. But anyway, old questions, if answered, go back to the top of the list, and your answer could be read and rated.
