Have you opened the case to your computer recently? It could be a loose connection between the drive and motherboard. Possibly the drive is failing, though not a likely symptom. Possibly a virus, do you have virus protection software? First thing I would try is disconnecting the drive and reconnecting it, also clean out the inside of the computer case with compressed air if you have not in a while. If you do not have anti-virus software you probably ought to buy some and do a full scan on your computer, I particularly like Panda http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/internet-security/ it's not free, though. You can also try AVG and Avast, they are simple and free. Not just as an attempt to fix this problem, but get it because you are clearly connected to the internet.

I can't answer your question, sorry -- but this once happened to my Acer laptop. It didn't work for maybe 6 weeks. One day the CD drive worked fine, the next day the computer denied all knowledge of ever having a CD drive. Anyway, the point being, one day it suddenly fixed itself. If you can't fix it, get a portable CD drive that connects to your USB port.
