  • Usually it's standard for one inch of fish for each gallon of water (that's also been written off as a myth, for understandable reasons). BUT you also have to put into account how big they are in ADULT life, how thick they are, as well as how messy they are. You can have more smaller fish but less of bigger fish. Make sure they aren't crowded, even if they are young and the tank seems a big big for them, you need to judge based on how full it will be when they are full-sized.
