  • For Windows XP and Vista this may be caused by a corrupted user profile. First thing to try would be System Restore in safe mode. Start the computer in safe mode by depressing F8 before boot and select Safe Mode from the options listed. You should be able to log in as Administrator. Open [Start]->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore. Select: Restore my computer to a previous time. Choose a recent date and it will reboot. If that fails: Restart the computer in Safe Mode as Administrator. Go to the control panel and create a new user with administartive rights. You should now be able to log in as the new user and copy your documents and other saved items to the new user's documents folder. After you're done you can delete the old user profile.
