  • You must report it to the local authorities. They will investigate and most likely place the child in a home/place designated for such situations. You will then have to file for temporary custody to keep the child until they have finished their investigation and all things included. Ie: Parents found and write the child off.. etc. Procedures differ from state to state but the basics are the same. You must follow the chain of command and report this in order to have a chance to securely be able to keep this child legally in the future. Good luck and I hope it turns out the way you want.. there is nothing greater than people like you who would be willing to love a child, any child.
  • you have to call the police. You can't play finders keepers with a human.
  • if you find a baby critter in the woods, you are supposed to leave it alone and dont touch it, because the mother will return to get it.
  • You have to report it. It is not legal to keep it. Imagine if it had been stolen and then abandoned and its parents were looking for it. Even if that were not the case, there are still extended family that need to be contacted, the child needs to be assessed physically...and who is to say that the finder is a good guardian for the child anyway?
  • finding an abandoned baby, one must call the local authorities, whoever abandoned the baby will be prosecuted in the court of law. that is child neglect and endangerment.
  • Consider that someone might have left it as they don't want parents to know their child had been doing "The Nasty" and/or it's a baby from a female who is doing drugs and doesn't care to go to the hospital and give it up. You wanna get a baby? There's many with FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) drug babies, abused babies and all want a good home, but few people can handle them later down the road.
  • You can keep a kitten, but not a baby.
