You might think so, in the interest of fairness. But you might not be the next one to use the commode; women 'go' more often than men, having the urge to go with a smaller volume in the bladder. What would be the point of raising it when she would just have to lower it again for herself? Simple solution, get a house with two toilets and each have your own - problem solved!! -- john pennington - I interpreted the question as one of reciprocity. If it isn't, perhaps you could elaborate on the context of your question.

I have always maintained that it is silly for me to have to touch the toilet seat twice so that she can avoid touching it once. After all, that is her objection..."I shouldn't have to touch that germy thing." I always wash up afterwards, so I fail to see wht the real problem is.

I wouldn't put the toliet seat up...not ever. It just looks nasty when the toilet seat is standing up like that. It is also common courtesy...women always sit down, and men only stand to urinate (I know some who don't even do that). On a tangent, I've never understood why a guy tries to convince me he's a good lover when he cannot hit a hole 10" in diameter... :P ;)

If the wife doesn't like to touch the germy seat, she should have done a better job cleaning it. No, just kidding, a toiletseat can be very filthy. Therefore, when in a strange place, I always lick the seat spotless clean before sitting on it.

The fact that toilet seats have lids, and that women don't suggest that we close the lid, but put the SEAT down is evidence that women don't want a real solution, but want for us to be as mutually unhappy as they are about needing the toilet seat lowered for them. (Best run-on sentence award). Of course, all this assumes that the reason she doesn't want the toilet seat up is because she sits without looking. She has no case with the germ issue since you both have to touch it.

I told my wife when we first married and she brought it up not two days later,,, I dont touch the seat. If it is up, I leave it up, if it is down, I leave it down. My aim is very good, I dont piss on the seat and if I do I clean it up. We agreed to disagree on that subject. She said she didnt want to touch the seat.. I said well, what makes you think I want to touch it either.

For two reasons, I would have to say "no." 1) because sometimes you, yourself, sit on the seat when doing numero dos, but she nevers needs the seat raised; and 2) because unless you two are the TIDIEST housekeepers in the world, bleaching the rim every day, then the seat looks/ appears/ IS cleaner than the naked rim. I am answering my own question, since our solution seems to be the best solution so far. We have compromised to leave the toilet seat down at all times. no matter if its no. 1 or no. 2, it stays down. We keep a bottle of lysol spray handy for overflows and missed targets. also, an extra roll of toilet paper for wipeups. We are both content, since we both won.

Why in the world are people still debating this? I don't mean to be arrogant about this, but the answer seems so logical that it escapes me why so many people miss it. If you open a cupboard, or a drawer, do you leave it open, or do you close it? The toilet has a lid. It is designed to be closed when not in use. The seat is under the lid, and therefore has to be closed in order to shut the lid. What's the problem here? We keep the lid closed at all times in our home when not in use. We never drop anything in the toilet, and we are that much more protected from the bacteria-friendly environment in the bowl. Doesn't it just make sense to keep it closed?

Yes - It's only right

That's never gonna happen. I'll tell ya why. When she goes back to the "commode" and sits down. She'll fall in the "commode" and you'll be fighting again. It's a losing battle.
-
A simple math problem.. If she sits down all the time... And you sit down 25% of the time... The seat is needed 62.5% of the time. Logically seat is down.

We have no rules except if you make a mess you clean it up.
