When using the software "Dreamweaver mx" I try to upload a folder to my existing site and I keep getting the error message- "unable to create remote folder 553- the file name you specified is not allowed." Does anyone know how to solve

That is a question you need to ask the company you host with. Mine, by way of example, won't allow the use of characters beyond letters and numbers, so that "-" would be unacceptable for myself to use. It may be that way with some or most web hosts.
