You have an electrical short that will be nearly impossible to locate without the aid of specialized equipment, your best bet would be to take the car to an automotive electrical lab, the fee should be no more than $150.00.

There is a wire shorting to ground,somewhere in the vehicle.I suggest checking the wiring harness from the ignition switch, and steering column. One word of caution, Jag's are notorious for electrical snafu's.It has caused many a good mechanic to loose his temper on more than one occasion..Good Luck!

If it is in the VDM of the cluster, and just the VDM. Pull the cluster and take off the back of the cluster and look at all the solder joints behind the VDM. If you hit the top of the dash and it comes on after it was off, more then likely a bad solder joint. invest in a $15 dollar soldering gun (low wattage) and do it yourself.
