the way i've always understood the song is this...he's worried about his girl being faithful when he's not going to be around in the future (while he's on the road)...phrases like "where ya going to tomorrow?...and i see that these are lies to come...would you even care?"...he's worried that she won't be, and that she doesn't even really care about him and would lie about it when she isn't faithful... so basically, in the refrain he's saying, when he's gone, will she appear to guys (who are going to be trying to hit on or hook up with her, i.e., the 'dogs') that she is alone, or available, when they come around and he's not there with her...will she smell 'alone' to them...
