  • I don't think so, no. If George Bush is smart (I know, I know... big "if", but you get what I'm trying to say) he will avoid war with Korea. We already have a lot on our plate now, and it would cause too much controversy and "drama" if we involved ourselves in another war. There really would not be much benefit too this if a war occured. There are not enough soldiers, Bush's approval would continue to plummet and we would be in a "rock in a hard place." Can you imagine what the reaction of most citzens would be? Whoa. Bush is probably best to finish out his term with only one war going on =/ He's not *that* stupid, or so I would hope...
  • Your question assumes that President Bush has the power to "start a war". This is entirely incorrect. For the United States to enter into a war, takes an act of Congress. Though it seems popular right now to be a "Bush Basher", it is unfair to him. I was watching the proceedings on TV the night that the United States Congress unanimously (that means Republicans and Democrats) voted for the use of military force in Iraq based on the recommendation of U.S intelligence sources (Marcus Aurelius needs to re-read this sentence). Nobody seems to remember this, however and lays the blame on the President. If the United States were to engage in a war with North Korea, it would have little to do with President Bush other than the fact that he is the one who would have to sign the paperwork. Do I think that the United States of America and North Korea will start a war? No. Edit: Though no formal "declaration of war" was issued, all of the examples cited by Marcus Aurelius were voted on and authorized by the U.S. Congress. • No. It serves the interest of both countries governments to keep their people focused on foreign enemies rather than problems at home. But you really don't want to start a war you just want to create a climate of fear so that the people will feel they need their governments to "protect" them. I believe it was Michaevelli who said if a government does not have an enemy it is neccesary to create one. We had a Korean war in the 50's and both sides lost in that one.
  • No I do not think that President Bush would do that. Only if he had reliable intelligence that North Korea was preparing to fire their missiles would he even do so. Kim Jong would not do it, but if there is a serious mental problem on his side, well that is another story. North Korea is very good at bluffing and playing a weak hand. What most Americans are not aware of is the very grim war planning scenarios that show what is likely in a conventional war between the two sides. The DMZ is the most heavily fortified border in the world. It is said that if a war broke out, within 24 hours, a large percentage the huge American force in the bunkers will be either dead or driven crazy by all of the shelling. Obviously, the North would be obliterated. Shock and Awe is what the US military does best, Also, the North's missiles would strike Seoul and farther South. This would kill many Korean and American civilians (including military dependents). It is said that in the first 72 hours, the US death toll could reach 30,000 to 50,000. This is of course because if a war starts, both sides will let loose with everything. North Korea knows that it is fighting for it's life and that it has everything to loose. I am certain about these figures. It is said that it is quite possible that the US would quickly turn to battlefield nuclear weapons to avoid such losses. You have to understand how deeply dug in these two sides are over there to conceive such a picture. My father fought in the Korean War, I was almost sent there too, (thankfully stationed in England instead, where the locals have been good enough to learn the English language, well sort of :) ). It is because of this stalemate in the trenches, this mutually assured destruction, which I feel that both sides clearly see the inconceivable in attacking each other. I pray for God's Kingdom to come before men can start such a futile, wasteful, bloodbath.
  • First off I need to clarify that I am not a Democrat, or Republican or belong to any other political party. I have always thought for myself and not had my opinion preprocessed and handed to me by the media a political party or any other group. I supported the use of force against Al Qaeda and against the governments that provided refuge to terrorist groups. I still support such actions. I completly agree that Bush was correct in attacking Al Qaeda and the government that supported and supplied refuge for him in Afghanistan. By destroying the Taliban government in Afghanistan he sent the clear message to governments else where that those governments who harbor terrorist would be held responsible for the actions of those terrorist. But then instead of continuing to go after Bin Laden and Al Qaeda American forces were diverted to an unwinnable war in Iraq. The only and inevitable result of such a war would be to destabilize the region with the very real possibility of the establishment of an Islamic Republic. Like in Iran. Hardly what Americans should be asked to die for. George Bush senior correctly realized this and stopped short of "conquering" Iraq in the first Gulf war. I believe that intellegence that supported the current administrations goals in Iraq were released and that which did not support that view were suppressed. In the climate after 9-11 American opinion was skillfully managed so that anyone who voted against the war in Iraq was labeled as disloyal and soft on terror and as not supporting the troops. To some degree this is still true.
  • This is a comment in reference to Answer #2 above. President George Bush is not only very smart, he is a very wise and prudent man. You do not have to be a silver tongued speach maker to be a great and insightful leader. He is one of the best Presidents the United states has ever had.
  • I sincerely hope that Kim Jong II is wise enough not to tempt President Bush. surely, this man does not believe that his small country, can threaten the world. Apparently, Kim Jong II, was not even born, before the situation with Japan. maybe, someone needs to send him a book, with photos, of the war with Japan. Talk is cheap. it also can be deadly.
