Duncan imperial yoyos cannot be opened. They are not meant to be screwed apart. For awhile you can force them apart but eventually this will screw up your yoyo. You don't need to get another one but might consider getting a better yoyo. Walmart carries the Duncan mosquito now. I would recommend you get one of those. They will allow you to get to advanced play and more difficult tricks.
