  • I assure them I'm "saved", smile, nod and thank them. It makes them happy and they go away. This way I don't have to engage in conversation with them adn they leave quickly feeling good about themselves. Some things just aren't worth debating.
  • In general I'd treat them as kindly as I would any uninvited guest. If I'm completely uninterested in an uninvited guest, I'd say "I'm not interested and I don't have time, but thanks for dropping by" -- and then I'd quietly close the door before they could say anything else.
  • I tell them I'm athiest. I'm not, but it works.
  • I say, "would you mind walking my dog?" This convinces them I'm wacko and they can't leave fast enough.
  • "Im sorry...I can't talk right now I have to get ready for work. Goodbye" Be sure to put emphasis on goodbye if they try to stop you..."Excuse ME! I said GOODBYE to you sir." Hard to argue with that one. Works in all enviroments and instances as everyone understands the need and responsibility and are not likely to challenge or impede one running late to work. Great excuse to get out of most any situation. It is also wise to post "No Soliciting" on your door or front walk. This applies to unwanted religious people selling religion. I have replaced this sign three times in the past few years as most likely it is these people who are frustrated at the posting. If they knock on your door they are subject to have the police investigate and cite their tresspass. You can also use the peephole, and ask them to state there business. There is never a need for you to open a door to a total stranger or strangers claiming they wish entrance to your home to preach God to you. How do you know there actual intent may not be criminal in nature? You don't. Anyone who sticks there foot in your door, to keep it from closing is commiting a criminal act of tresspass, home invasion, terrorist action, etc. etc., no matter their religious intention they are not respecting the rights of another individuals privacy and sanctity of ones domicile. Freedom of religion does not outweigh the scope of anothers rights as granted within this country. Call the police immeadiately, do not confront them on your own.
  • I would answer a door looking like I was just polishing my shotgun. Also, depending on who bugs you, if you ask them to come in and join you in the ritual, they will leave you alone, at least for a bit. With Jehovah witness, you can always tell them how happy you are to be able to talk to them, you missed being able to talk to people who believe what you do since you've been shunned. Give me a bit more time, I'll come up with more wacky ideas.
  • I tell them, "It's okay, I already saved about three hours ago, and if I die I can always respawn from there. Thanks, though!"
  • We used to get a lot of this in our shared student houses,we tried a few methods, with various levels of success: -Politely tell them you're a Satanist. (Got a mouthful, but they didn't come back) -Say you're busy, but invite them to come back later, at which time you arrange to have a well-versed Biblical scholar (preferably from a different denomination) to pick holes in their suspect interpretation of the Bible. (Worked pretty well, but got a bit drafty with the front door open) - Invite them back later, invite them in having pre-arranged to have two homosexual friends making out on the sofa (Didn't really work, they came back again, but it was highly amusing) - Pour a large bucket of water over them from an upstairs window (I haven't tried this personally, and I think you may be on dodgy legal ground, but a friend told me it works well- also good for use with trick or treaters and door to door salesmen) -Open the door dressed in stockings, suspenders and a leather bustier with a whip in your hand (Never tried this, but willing to bet it'd put them off) Alternatively just take the traditional route- take the magazines and say you'll read them later then pretend to be out next time they call.
  • My first wife had one that always worked. "Where do you live?" she would ask. The reply always came back "Why, madam?" "Because I'm sleeping off night shift just now. I'll pop round to your place about 3am and you can talk to me then, OK?". One lot actually gave their address. Fools!
  • Me and my friend dressed up as dracula and the devil and tried to jump on them Edit: *sigh* Now I knew THAT rating was coming. You have no sense of humour, AND you are rating down my life experience! Seriously, if you were bugged by Jahovnah Witnesses as much as me, you would do it too! So for God sake its silly, is what it is! (but you don't have to change it mind) Edit: Ha, C+! This is great! Why don't we see if we can get my answer removed for being spam/offensive?!
  • "I have no soul"
  • Depends upon the day and my mood. (Hey, it isn't like I invited them...they invited themselves.) I used to listen to them, but then quickly learned that the Mormons switch people every 2 months and keep coming back. So, then I realized that they will come back so long as my immortal soul is in danger, UNLESS they think theirs is in greater peril. So, I "tried" to convert them to Wicca, and they never returned. (This was before I was Wiccan, btw. It isn't like they actually know anything about it, so you just babble some inane nonsense about a horned God and the virgin Goddess and sacrificing the first of the crop...) TELL them you are Wiccan, and they try to save your soul. Try to CONVERT them to Wicca, and they leave never to return. Sometimes I'm bored, so take the time to explain that I'm one of the "other people," descended from the Pagans (aka: the Land of Nod) and do not have original sin; therefore, don't require a savior. Funny how they come around to share their religion with you, but don't like it when you share yours back. I've lived in my neighborhood for over 5 years now, so they've stopped coming.
  • I tell them Satan "saved" me while Jesus was busy on a cross. First come, first served.
  • Go along with it for a few minutes, if they take too long or they suspect their trying to sell you something, tell them you have a phone call, or something of the similar.
  • They came around about a month ago. I told them I was Wiccan and they proceeded to fumble through their stuff to find something they could tell me about Wicca. I told them it is not likely they could tell me something about Wicc that I didn't know, just as I would not go around and try to educate them on their own religion. (Like that it is relatively young compared to paganism) To each his/her own. People need to do what works for them personally.
  • As one who used to knock on doors, let me give some advice. Simply tell them that you are not interested. If you make some excuse for not talking to them right then, then they can take that as a invitation to come back at another time. However, if someone told us that they were not interested, then we would usually just wish them a good day and be on our way. When I was a missionary, we were supposed to keep a record of the doors on which we knocked and what response we got. If someone said that they were not interested we would note this in the records and later missionaries were not supposed to keep knocking on those people's doors. So, if someone does keep bothering you every few months, then you may need to be a bit more firm. ********* "pugwashjw65: What were you disfellowshipped for, Glenn?" 1. You must have me confused with someone else. I have never been the subject of a Church disciplinary action. Therefore, I have never been disfellowshipped. 2. What has that got to do with this question?
  • Where i live, i've never yet come across these kind of things. But here's an idea... Why not just open the door and act as if you're deaf and use hand signals? Also put an expression on your face that tells them 'i cant understand what you're really trying to say'. If you cant hear them speak, then what's the point if them speaking to you? Then politely shut the door.
  • By the term " unwanted religious people", I would surmise that you mean Jehovah's Witnesses. Thet are knocking on your door at great expense to themselves in both time and money. Their hard earned money. The simple " out" is to tell them you wish to be placed on their " do not call" list, and you will not have another visit. However, people do change addresses. So about once every six to twelve months, two senior members [ brothers] will check your address to see whether you still reside there. The calls are made because of the scripture (2 Peter 3:9) Jehovah is not slow respecting his promise, as some people consider slowness, but he is patient with YOU because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance. Think about this; If J.W's are doing what God wants, and they firmly believe this, then your refusal to listen is a self imposed death warrant.
  • If they are JW's, ask them to pledge the allegiance to the flag with you. They won't and will leave.
  • I really thought I had explained the situation clearly. If you do not want further visits, just say so. And for anonymous. You probably would like to do serious damage to a J.W. knocking on your door. But if you do, expect that the law will punish you for it. And dont forget...If it was me, I personally would not retaliate, but I could not guarantee that a member of my family, NOT A J.W.. would not. sunshiney...wE DO NOT SELL SWEETS. And Lagy Fuschia and I are old acquaintances...Hi Lady....You've heard it all before.
  • I tell them i only answer to the lord satan and their smiles slide right off. lol
  • if i'm in a good mood i tell them i want equal time to talk about satan. bad mood, i just tell em to f*** off. either way the reaction is priceless.
  • Oddly, I find that most of them are quite nice people who are willing to respect that I am quite happy with my current belief system and I wish them well. After all, they are usually just following the edicts of their own religion. When they press the issue... I have fun :)
  • Well the last time it happened, it was two young women (about my age) who where really cute so I just listened to them. I'd have gone to church with them but they where Witnesses and Witnesses are heretics in my book and I'm not about to go to a heretical church. Cute heretics but heretics none the less. Later on I assure them that I know Christ and they are preaching to the choir.
  • I Just say YES THANKYOU I do believe in Jesus , I am a Roman Catholic . Then I close the door
  • i dont get those because i live in a house that every1 thinks is abandoned i guess but if i had the chance, i would simply try to recruit them to my religon, or even better aitheism. But if i didn't answer the door and they kept annoying me lek you say they do to un in comments,i would take my shirt off spike my hair really quick with jstu water w/e cover my hands in fake blood get a preferebly large gun open the door and screem "JESUS CHRIST WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT!"
  • Tell them you worship satan and close the door
  • To be honest, I have never had this happen to me once in all my 26 years of existence. I have had three or four very nice young people politely ask me for a moment of my time on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, but aside from that, "certain religious missionaries" don't bother me at all. If ANYONE knocked on my door at 8am on a Sunday morning, I wouldn't answer it. It's your home, isn't it? You decide who you will or will not open your front door to.
  • It's never happened to me, but I'm sure I wouldn't be pleasant to them.
  • Don't answer the door..problem solved! :)
  • tell them to go away...problem solved....
  • Yes, but I only find it slightly annoying ... Anyway, like I always say, "It is better to be pissed off than ON."
  • I had a pretty disturbing Mormon missionary experience a few months back... 2 young guys show up at my door as I was picking up my paper (meaning I couldn't avoid them, because they saw me, damnit) and ask me if they could talk to me about their church. I told them I was very happy with my faith and started to go back inside and one asked what religion I was.... Well, I, being an IDIOT actually turned around and answered instead of just saying goodbye and going inside. "I'm Catholic" I said. The second guy looked at his friend and then turned to me and asked "Aren't you ashamed that all of your priests are child molesters? and Catholic isn't a Godly religion." I was shocked. I told them that most priests are wonderful men of God and that to assume that ALL priests are sexual deviants is like saying ALL Mormons are polygamists. They got really upset and told me I was going to burn in hell. I was just stunned.
  • Yes. I am always upset when treated rudely.
  • I'm actually very happy to get the chance to slam the door in their faces. It makes for such a wonderful day to put those people in their place.:-)
  • Indeed it does. What makes me more mad is once I tried to close the room and the man put his hand up against it and stopped the door from closing. Thats when I was tired of being nice and polite and decided to explain to him why I didn't believe in G-d. Normally I am not one to just be like, This is why I don't believe, but I actually listen to what people have to say even though I know the Bible from front to back. But when you are rude to me, I am gonna throw it right back.
  • Yes, and they never obey the NO SOLICITATION sign! They think that going door to door for religious reasons isn't selling anything. I'm just like, sorry, not interested, close the door. Even if you're another religion where christ was simply a jew, and nothing else, they don't care. I've even been followed down the street by christian youth group members trying to convert me. Let me be an atheist jew in peace!
  • Being too often a later riser myself, anyone coming at that hour often finds me in a bathrobe or in bed. That is not pleasant nor convenient. But, try to consider this. Suppose for a moment that the message they convey to you is true and of utmost importance. If a tidal wave or wildfire were headed your way, and someone woke you or interrupted you at an inconvenient time, would you be dismissive of them, and even ungrateful, if they warned you of calamity, even death, headed your way, and tried to get you to move or to action? Suppose you had a million dollars in IndyMac Bank, and someone told you to get your money out before the Feds took you over, and you got less than the money you had put in there? Now, take this several steps further. If this life is not all there is to our existence, and you find out after this life that the duration of your soul is actually endless, wouldn't you be far more pieved if this was so, and you needed to prepare for it, this life being (as I, for example, believe it is) one of a couple major points of turning toward the direction we will be eternally inclined, wouldn't you even be curious to know? I guarantee you that you will find millions (or even billions) on the same side of the answer you are now on to the question you posed. But if your "end" state is not a happy one, and it could be, wouldn't you want the chance to change it? When is a "convenient" time to talk about religion? And, if it is "convenient" when you talk about it, will it necessarily be of benefit to you? (i.e., will it change your viewpoint and your life's direction)? The scriptures talk about those who are blind and deaf, but not because they cannot see or hear. But rather, because they WILL NOT see or hear. Are you one of those? If they preach or teach "fables", then allow them to amuse you or themselves. But, if their message is anchored in truth, in eternal realities as big or even much bigger (given the duration of 'eternity') than this life and things of this relatively short time we have on this ball of rock and dirt, might it not possibly be of great consequence to give the message they bear a "full hearing"? I am LDS (i.e., "Mormon"). I served two years in France trying to give those their the "glad tidings" ('gospel' is an Old English word which means 'good news', which can also be rendered as 'glad tidings') of what we believe Jesus Christ has done for us, and what we each and all need to do to avail ourselves of the atonement we believe he accomplished for us. Whether you be an "atheist Jew" (which is, in my opinion, an extremely strong oxymoron), or a 'traditional Christian', your being "in peace" means not being bothered with something contrary to your current viewpoint, and, I would bet, lifestyle. We (Mormons), for example, believe that it is God's desire that all of his children (all of mankind) lived "after the manner of happiness". Generally, in this day and age at least, so much of what goes on in society in general, and in so many individuals lives, in particular, that will never lead to genuine peace or happiness. As a prophet quoted in The Book of Mormon put it, "...wickedness never was happiness...", and, I would add, never will be. There are principles, established by God, before this earth was even formed, that determine happiness or misery. And just as reliable and unchanging as the forces in nature we observe all around us, so certain principles that govern human happiness cannot be changed by any individual or group, no matter how much they agree between themselves, or claim or feign or try to make it otherwise. I feel that if one is secure enough in one's own beliefs (yes, even Jewish atheists have 'beliefs') and assumptions and philosophical structures, one can logically defend one's reasoning with others. And, if one is not so secure, then perhaps the confidence one has in their view of the universe is not as solid or well-anchored as it ought to be. But I tend to think that more people don't want to talk about religion because they are often quite entrenched either in sin or in their own set of "fairy tales". (One may believe and claim that others' beliefs are 'fairy tales'. But whether one believes in God or not, there are plenty of 'fairy tales' to go well around). Generally, too, if one is inclined to be honest at all, it is more likely to occur in a face-to-face situation in person than it is to be in/on forums such as this.
  • I invite them in, and ask questions about their religion. If it pertains to the Bible, I know the Bible better than they do. So I try to convince them of my religion. I recommend telling them "I'll see you in h*ll", and mean it. Of course, if they don't make it, I know that I'll be there, at least.
  • I would tell them, those who do not "know" have no right to pretend they do, and such pretensions of the negational dogmatists constitute an imposture. Whosoever owns the head, you cannot quite bring a knowledge of all things pertaining to the ultimate reality under one hat. Hermes said: "There can be no religion more true or just than to know the things that are". In other words, In "knowledge" only can we find a common ground of agreement. That which is based upon "knowledge" need not be the subject of everlasting diversity and contention amongst innumerable sects. I would also tell them, you were sent here to create the kingdom-to work it out by living that law of love proclaimed as laying down the life in love for others, and the very reason why the "kingdom" doesn't come, and cannot come, is because you're standing in the way of its coming. And you, and all who think and act as you do--always on your knees praying for the better day to come, must be swept out of the way in order that it may come. I guaranty you they would leave your place dizzy and want no business with you ever. I know this, it worked for me.
  • i've heard the story of the man who told the JW's to come back next week. he then contacted the CJCLS(M) and invited them to stop by at the same time as the JWs. they then engaged in dynamic religious dialogue. as for me, i now keep a trash bag next to my front door so nobody is brave enough to step up to the door anymore.
  • Oh, Miss Ferly, I fully understand. And I find your answer most revealing. You say at first "I have no desire to become a Mormon or believe in anything that the Mormon faith has to offer." But then you add, "We allow whoever wants to come and worship God to come and worship (in other words, EVERYONE is welcome). We don't steal 10% of our congregations wages. We don't exclude other people from entering the church if they are not Baptist. We don't believe in modern day "prophets". We don't believe people are evil if they practice another religion (only God can judge)." We come to invite you to check out our religion. Close to 60,000 missionaries come, most of them for two full years, paying their own way (the Church does not support them monetarily), to bring you what we believe is the original gospel taught by Jesus Christ. "EVERYONE is welcome" at your church? Why, not only is EVERYONE welcome at OUR church, but we come to your door to give you a personal in-person invitation to come!!! We exclude no one! No one "steals" 10% of any portion of anyone's money in our Church. We do require tithing, as a prerequisite to 'be worthy' for, among other things, to receive a temple recommend. But, then again, that is what 'tithing' as taught in the Bible means - 10%. There is no IRS or any such institution in the LDS faith. We know that you do not "believe in modern day prophets". Which 'traditional Christians' do? (None that I am aware of). But then again, we are NOT 'traditional Christians'. Oh, we ARE Christian to be sure. We believe that only in and through Jesus Christ can we, you or anyone be saved. We believe that he is our advocate with the Father, our Redeemer, Alpha and Omega, the Only Begotten of the Father in the flesh, the only perfect being to live on the earth. And we come to you and the whole world to gladly declare that the heavens are open again. That God again speaks to mankind, as Amos, a prophet of the Bible boldly declared— "Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." (Bible | Amos 3:7) God spoke to Noah in his time. He commanded Noah to build an ark. But Abraham didn't need to build an ark in his time. But God appeared unto him, and gave him commandments to fit his needs and his situation. Then more than half a millennia later, God spoke to Moses. God had already declared his word to Noah and to Abraham. But that was insufficient to meet the needs of Moses and the people of Israel in his day. You may think that "Mormonism" (a name given by others to us, and not given to us by ourselves) has nothing for you. But, perhaps you are not as welcoming as you claim. 2,000 years ago, some other groups of religious people thought they had God's true religion too. And then someone came and upset the 'apple cart', so to speak. His name was Joshua. They said to him, essentially, "Noah we know, and Abraham we know, and Moses we know, but as for this fellow (Joshua), where did he come from?" Of course, "Joshua" was his name in Hebrew. In Greek, his name is Jesus. The religious people of Jesus' day also had their religious traditions. They believed it was the "real deal"—straight from God, pure as pure can be, etc, etc, etc. Sound familiar to you at all? It should. It is the position today of what I call neo-Pharisees and neo-Sadducees. These groups and others of close but varying beliefs disagree at times with and between each other. But what they, like Pontius Pilate and Herod agreed on (though they were at enmity between each other), is that this 'interloper', this charlatan, this annoyer, ought to be put to death. And so he was. And like the neo-Pharisees and neo-Sadducees of this day, they may disagree with each other, and often vehemently on many religious subjects. But what they DO agree on between themselves, and what DOES bring them together, is that these "Mormons" are absolutely and completely WRONG! What do "Mormons" say as to whether or not Baptists, or any other "-ists" are "wrong"? You said yourself, "...We don't believe people are evil if they practice another religion (only God can judge)..." I don't, we don't say that you or any other sect of Christianity is wrong. What we DO say and believe is that God declared the following in the "First Vision" received by the very young Joseph Smith Jr in 1820 when he was but age 14— "5 Some time in the second year after our removal to Manchester, there was in the place where we lived an unusual excitement on the subject of religion. It commenced with the Methodists, but soon became general among all the sects in that region of country. Indeed, the whole district of country seemed affected by it, and great multitudes united themselves to the different religious parties, which created no small stir and division amongst the people, some crying, "Lo, here!" and others, "Lo, there!" Some were contending for the Methodist faith, some for the Presbyterian, and some for the Baptist. 6 For, notwithstanding the great love which the converts to these different faiths expressed at the time of their conversion, and the great zeal manifested by the respective clergy, who were active in getting up and promoting this extraordinary scene of religious feeling, in order to have everybody converted, as they were pleased to call it, let them join what sect they pleased; yet when the converts began to file off, some to one party and some to another, it was seen that the seemingly good feelings of both the priests and the converts were more pretended than real; for a scene of great confusion and bad feeling ensued—priest contending against priest, and convert against convert; so that all their good feelings one for another, if they ever had any, were entirely lost in a strife of words and a contest about opinions. 7 I was at this time in my fifteenth year. My father's family was proselyted to the Presbyterian faith, and four of them joined that church, namely, my mother, Lucy; my brothers Hyrum and Samuel Harrison; and my sister Sophronia. 8 During this time of great excitement my mind was called up to serious reflection and great uneasiness; but though my feelings were deep and often poignant, still I kept myself aloof from all these parties, though I attended their several meetings as often as occasion would permit. In process of time my mind became somewhat partial to the Methodist sect, and I felt some desire to be united with them; but so great were the confusion and strife among the different denominations, that it was impossible for a person young as I was, and so unacquainted with men and things, to come to any certain conclusion who was right and who was wrong. 9 My mind at times was greatly excited, the cry and tumult were so great and incessant. The Presbyterians were most decided against the Baptists and Methodists, and used all the powers of both reason and sophistry to prove their errors, or, at least, to make the people think they were in error. On the other hand, the Baptists and Methodists in their turn were equally zealous in endeavoring to establish their own tenets and disprove all others. 10 In the midst of this war of words and tumult of opinions, I often said to myself: What is to be done? Who of all these parties are right; or, are they all wrong together? If any one of them be right, which is it, and how shall I know it? 11 While I was laboring under the extreme difficulties caused by the contests of these parties of religionists, I was one day reading the Epistle of James, first chapter and fifth verse, which reads: If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 12 Never did any passage of scripture come with more power to the heart of man than this did at this time to mine. It seemed to enter with great force into every feeling of my heart. I reflected on it again and again, knowing that if any person needed wisdom from God, I did; for how to act I did not know, and unless I could get more wisdom than I then had, I would never know; for the teachers of religion of the different sects understood the same passages of scripture so differently as to destroy all confidence in settling the question by an appeal to the Bible. 13 At length I came to the conclusion that I must either remain in darkness and confusion, or else I must do as James directs, that is, ask of God. I at length came to the determination to "ask of God," concluding that if he gave wisdom to them that lacked wisdom, and would give liberally, and not upbraid, I might venture. 14 So, in accordance with this, my determination to ask of God, I retired to the woods to make the attempt. It was on the morning of a beautiful, clear day, early in the spring of eighteen hundred and twenty. It was the first time in my life that I had made such an attempt, for amidst all my anxieties I had never as yet made the attempt to pray vocally. 15 After I had retired to the place where I had previously designed to go, having looked around me, and finding myself alone, I kneeled down and began to offer up the desires of my heart to God. I had scarcely done so, when immediately I was seized upon by some power which entirely overcame me, and had such an astonishing influence over me as to bind my tongue so that I could not speak. Thick darkness gathered around me, and it seemed to me for a time as if I were doomed to sudden destruction. 16 But, exerting all my powers to call upon God to deliver me out of the power of this enemy which had seized upon me, and at the very moment when I was ready to sink into despair and abandon myself to destruction—not to an imaginary ruin, but to the power of some actual being from the unseen world, who had such marvelous power as I had never before felt in any being—just at this moment of great alarm, I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me. 17 It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him! 18 My object in going to inquire of the Lord was to know which of all the sects was right, that I might know which to join. No sooner, therefore, did I get possession of myself, so as to be able to speak, than I asked the Personages who stood above me in the light, which of all the sects was right (for at this time it had never entered into my heart that all were wrong)—and which I should join. 19 I was answered that I must join none of them, [u]for they were all wrong; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that those professors were all corrupt; that: "they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof." 20 He again forbade me to join with any of them; and many other things did he say unto me, which I cannot write at this time. When I came to myself again, I found myself lying on my back, looking up into heaven. When the light had departed, I had no strength; but soon recovering in some degree, I went home. And as I leaned up to the fireplace, mother inquired what the matter was. I replied, "Never mind, all is well—I am well enough off." I then said to my mother, "I have learned for myself that Presbyterianism is not true." It seems as though the adversary was aware, at a very early period of my life, that I was destined to prove a disturber and an annoyer of his kingdom; else why should the powers of darkness combine against me? Why the opposition and persecution that arose against me, almost in my infancy?" (Pearl of Great Price | JS-History 1:5 - 20) WE have not said that other religions are WRONG— Jesus Christ has declared it! And he is God! (As you have said, HE can judge). You say that you accept ALL of ALL FAITHS. But, is Christ divided? And if it is, can it stand? Remember what Jesus himself declared— "22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. 23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? 24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. 25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: 26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? 27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. 28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. 29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man's house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. 30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad." (New Testament | Matthew 12:22 - 30) If God is the same "yesterday, today and forever", why does he not speak to mankind today as he did anciently? (via prophets and apostles)? Well, part of our message is— He does! Isn't that marvelous? God is not dead nor doth he sleep! He speaks! The heavens have been again opened. And the dispensation of the fullness of times is here! Why wouldn't you or anyone want to hear such "glad tidings of great joy which shall be unto all people"? The angel who declared that prophesy to the shepherds the night of Jesus' birth were not being merely poetic or euphemistic. This is the very reason why nearly 60,000 missionaries are going to all the world, literally, to bring this most happy news! Why don't you want to hear? Why won't you at least give them a chance? 1 WHO hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? (Old Testament | Isaiah 53:1) 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (New Testament | Romans 10:14 - 17) Again, on the one hand you claim to be "open". On the other hand, you adamantly declare that you are "closed" to any new word from God. To you the canon is closed. You are blind and deaf, but not because you CANnot see, but rather, because you WILL not see!
  • If you want to be blind, I'll let you be blind. If you will not hear, you are deaf to my attempts to get you to even attempt to listen and understand. You said, "There's more than one way to God...". You answered there the question I asked. But, let me ask you, how do you square your statement that there is "more than one way to God" whereas Jesus himself, as recorded in the Bible, adamantly declared— 13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (New Testament | Matthew 7:13 - 14) And— 22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. (New Testament | Matthew 12:22 - 26) And— 11 For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you. 12 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? (New Testament | 1 Corinthians 1:11 - 13) Indeed, modern 'traditional Christianity' with their ecumenical movements, etc, admit and say that it is "okay" that "Christ is divided". But that is not what Christ, himself, said. And that is not what Paul said! And I am not trying to "bully" you. If you think I am not "some sort of authority (on the Bible)", show me or explain to me either which verses I have misread, misunderstood. Or, which verses I have failed to quote. Certainly, you know your Bible, supposedly, well enough to counter what I say, if I am wrong. I say, "Come now, and let us reason together..." (Old Testament | Isaiah 1:18) Reason with me. Tell me where and why I am wrong. Please, don't just tell me I'm wrong. Infants throw tantrums. Adults discuss, and use reasoning. Please, give me your reasoning, if you think I am wrong. Also, I do not say that there is no truth, or even not a lot of truth in what many in 'traditional Christianity' say. However, if I'm headed to a destination of any distance, and if I am but a degree or two off, I'll never reach my destination.
  • (continued from last post) 17 But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil; for after this manner doth the devil work, for he persuadeth no man to do good, no, not one; neither do his angels; neither do they who subject themselves unto him. 18 And now, my brethren, seeing that ye know the light by which ye may judge, which light is the light of Christ, see that ye do not judge wrongfully; for with that same judgment which ye judge ye shall also be judged. 19 Wherefore, I beseech of you, brethren, that ye should search diligently in the light of Christ that ye may know good from evil; and if ye will lay hold upon every good thing, and condemn it not, ye certainly will be a child of Christ. (Book of Mormon | Moroni 7:17 - 19)
  • Not universally. One time it was a really hot blonde a-knockin'! ;-)
  • Hello!
  • There are a lot of people who welcome that knock...Unfortunately, for these ones to be found...every door must be knocked on. Just realize that they are not trying to convert the world. They are only looking for the ones that want their help. I have knocked on many a door. There are a lot of nice people who are not interested in getting into a conversation right then. A number of these like reading the Watchtower and Awake magazines. One house that I call on....The man recently told me: "I really like thise magazines...I mean it...I really like these magazines. Others, appreciate the opportunity to have a one on one discussion of the Bible and to have their Bible questions answered by the Bible. Yes, I do occasionally run accross some one who is rude. Others may try to come up with some cute remark....It's really not necessary. However.
  • Jesus Christ gave his followers this meaningful commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you. And, look! I am with you all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.” (Matthew 28:19,  The principal way in which that work would be done became evident immediately after the day of Pentecost 33 C.E. “Every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.” (Acts 5:42) Some 20 years later, the apostle Paul was engaging in the house-to-house ministry, for he reminded Christian elders from the city of Ephesus: “I did not hold back from telling you any of the things that were profitable nor from teaching you publicly and from house to house.”—Acts 20:20. History says that the majority failed to listen to Jesus and his apostles also.
