I heard on the news the other day that Michelle Duggar is pregnant with her 18th child. I can see maybe 3 kids at the most for a family. Is it necessary to have so many children? Has anyone heard what this family's reasons were for having do many?

I heard that they don't believe in birth control and she stated that she will have as many children as God wants her to have. She most have nerves of steel. But of course she has alot of help with the younger kids.

I think it's socially irresponsible to have so many children. I don't know what the reason is behind it..but I can guess it has something to do with religon.

When Michelle was younger, the both made a decision that they would use birth control until they felt they could financially support a family. However, a few years later Michelle conceived despite her being on the pill, this obviously failed them. They were pleased with this news and decided they would keep the baby. Unfortunately, Michelle miscarried shortly into the pregnancy. Doctor's said that the miscarriage was probably because of her being on the pill around that time. After this, Michelle and Jim Bob decided they never wanted to use contraception again if it risked losing a child. Each child they receive, they believe, is a blessing from God and nothing should be done to prevent from conceiving a child. And their 18th child is due on 01/01/2009- new years day- sam day as my cousin's baby lol!

I think it is very crazy. i mean come on,is god gonna give you the money to support all these kids!

If they can love, support, educate, clothe, feed and raise their children to be happy and functioning adults, then who cares how many of them there are? I wish more people would stop worrying so much about the private lives of other people and the choices they make and concentrate more on real issues, like the fact that North Korea is detonating nuclear weapons or that the rain forests are being destroyed or that people are homeless.

They are part of the Quiverfull movement. One of their goals is to produce lots of right wing religious fanatic kids (along with other parents doing the same thing) in an attempt to tip the voting scales in their favor.

before i moved to texas, the duggars were my neighbors. XD but to answer the question, i believe they can have as many kids as they want. they are financially supporting them. and they have said that they will have as many children as God gives them.:)
