Neither. Trade in your current car for a used car from a reputable dealer. You will probably end up paying a grand or two if you get a slight upgrade, but you definitely don't want to be under the extra burden of a new car payment while you're studying.

It depends on what year, and model car you have, the total miles, and the types of problems you have been having. I would guess you have something like a Dodge, not a Honda or Toyota. It is almost always better to buy a nice vehicle a few years old as someone else has taken the depreciation hit.
