  • IT THE FACT THAT I KNOW A HIGHER BEING THAN ME IS WATCHING ME, AND IT MAKE ME DO THE RIGHT.
  • No....I guess the thought of an invsible sky dwelling all knowning super being created the universe, the earth and all living things on the Earth in 6 days.....forgive me if I have trouble believing something that has no intellegent basis for evidence...
  • The Dalai Lama says: Many people believe in God because if they don't they are told they will be either smited or sent to hell or both. I do not believe in God since I am an incarnation of Avalokitesvara, the sentinent being of compassion, and have never been to church or synagogue.
  • Short answer: I believe in God because it was proven to me that he exists. Long(er) answer: I believe in God because of many reasons. None of my reasons are because I wanted to. I had no idea about God at one time. When someone first taught me, all I could do was ask, ask and ask a lot of questions. I especially like finding "scientific" proof. Scientific is quoted because it is the same evidence that everyone uses, creationists and evolutionists, obviously how people interpret it causes these great debates. Just to comment on what James McClister said about the 6 days of creation: I too wasn't sure if that really was a literal 6 days. Really, none of us know for sure but if we are to believe that an Almighty God does exist then why do we put limitations on him. I believe he could create everything in one second; the bible says he did it in a few days. Why people have difficulty in believing is that they are aware of certain laws of our universe that supposedly contradicts Genesis' statments. For example: You may be aware that the speed of light is about 186,000 miles per second. The light from distant stars could not reach earth in only a few days. So, the creation of the universe and earth is false by the bibles narrative. "Well, I say, do we know everything about the universe to be exactly sure?" Scientists are speeding up and slowing down light in labratories. see these links: http://hackensackhigh.org/light.html http://www.jupiterscientific.org/sciinfo/slowlight.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/841690.stm Now if light is affected by gravity, temperature and other mediums, how can light be a constant througout the whole universe and throughout all time? How can we know what the universe was like at the very beginning? From all the research I've done, I see the universe as a fine tuned instrument. Keep asking and you will find.
  • Yes, I believe in God for a number of reasons. First of all, I just can't accept that all of what we see in the universe is the result of random chance. Yes, the universe is governed by laws, but why. Out of all of the possible universes why did everything work out the way it did? Without God in the mix, you ultimately have to answer this question with it just did. With God in the mix, there is a reason for everything. We may not understand it, but it is this way because God made it this way. This, however, would not be enough for me. The other main reason I believe in God is because I have felt his Holy Spirit confirm His existence to my soul. Unfortunately, this is not something that is easily explained to those who have not experienced it. The best explanation of it that I can give is that there came a point in my life where I had to find out form myself if He was really there. So, I studied the scriptures and prayed for Him to let me know if they were true. One night while I was thus engaged, I realized that I was happier at that moment than I had ever been in my life. I then remembered a verse from the Bible: "22 But the afruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, "23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." (Galatians 5:22-23) When I remembered that verse I realized that I had received my answer. With that realization came an even more intense feeling of joy as further confirmation. So, I know that God lives. He is there, where ever there is, watching us and answering our prayers. As for the question of how long He took to create the Earth. I don't claim to know the answer. He could have created everything in a mere 6 days and just made thing look older if He wanted to. He also could have taken much longer and just given us a symbolic account of the creation. Personally, I really don't think that it matters how He did it as long as we accept that He did and realize the opportunities the He provided for us as a result of His goodness in doing so.
  • i believe this is a duplicate question & i'll be flagging it.
  • I just don't see a reason why... - Scientists state: "Religion puts a limit on human minds"
  • Because I need something more substantial than anecdotal evidence.
