Would you use a highly publicized event as a way to get the word out regarding your cause/struggle?

It would most likely depend on the event, but I think I would. If it gave me an opportunity to speak to a multitude of people about an issue that truly affects us all (because I live and think globally, that could be any number of things!). I think if there is oppression in the world, starvation, etc, why not use a highly publicized event to get the word out?!
