    That is beyond ridiculous.
There is NOO way an elementary school child should be needing to carry a gun for safety or security purposes.

I'm all for the NRA and the right to bear arms.
But if we need to turn elementary schools into war zones we might just as well go back to living in caves.

I think teaching them how to spell and add up would be a much better thing to do ...f*ck me bloody adults can't even be trusted with guns ...whats little billy going to do if little johnny knocks his blocks over ...take out a glock and teach him a lesson ...these utter fools need a good hard smack up the side of their heads and kicked out of office for even concidering this inane idea

Shammer, until you can provide a link to something that actually shows that states are considering this, I will have to think that you either misunderstood what you were hearing or watching or that you are joking.

Only one state is considering anything remotely close that. West Virgina is trying to get authorization to allow 7th, 8th & 9th graders to have rifle sharpshooting and hunting skills as an elective course, similar to home economics or wood shop classes.

There is NO WAY that ANY state government would authorize elementary aged children (ages 6 to 12) to carry, posess, conceal or use a firearm without parental supervision. In addition, they would have to repeal the "Gun Free" zones that surround most schools. Most states require a minimum age of 18 or 21 to own a handgun.

There IS a *small* effort to allow teachers who meet all other requirements for gun ownership to be allowed to carry a gun on to school grounds and/or keep it in the classroom for safety sake. A very small movement with little support.

If you could find some real evidence of the movement and potential legislature you are asking about, I would really like to see it. I have been searching for more than 20 minutes with no results.

    ---

    edited to add:
here is an example of "students carrying guns" legislation in Arizona. It is in regards to COLLEGE students, over the age of 21 years old. http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/107354

Bullying's bad enough in school... There will be MANY MORE dead kids, killed by elementary kids with guns, for full-fledged bullying to imagined slights. Not only that, but the bullies will have guns, too. So there will be shoot-outs, and many innocent people (not IN the fight) hurt and killed.

AND, what about when the teacher orders Little Johnnie or Janie to the principal's office? ... won't let them take recess for a punishment for something they did? ... order them to take a note home to their parents? ...Or even just tell them they have homework? Will THEY then be "under fire" (literally)? What about the principal? THEY are likely to be targets, too.

Now, they're on the way home. What if the bus driver pisses them off? How 'bout the cars that don't stop for the bus? The shop-keeper that tries to chase them out for loitering and shoplifting? The old man or old lady who looks at them cross-eyed, or scolds them for walking on the grass or picking their flowers?

GEEZE! This is the stoopidest idea I've ever heard. PLEASE let us know WHICH STATES! If it's mine, I want to side with the OPPONENTS of the idea!

Shammer, I think you have been DR for simply asking a question. Some of these answers sound like they think you are pro guns in the schools. I think to inform people sometimes............is just a waste. They pick out what they want to see, and nothing else. I give you credit for trying to ask a question. :)

These are the same people who think that only established criminals use guns. They divide the world up into 'good' and 'evil', and firmly believe which side guns are on.

Hohoho, Oh yes. Imagine (if you can) Movie night for kids at the local movie theatre, a Cowboy movie with lots of gun fighting. next day at school. 'Did ya see that movie last night?' Yair, hey waddabout that place where he shoots over his back like this? Four children behing him fall to the ground as his gun blasts away. Instead of having to make the sounds of gunfire with the mouth, these kids have the real thing, no more pretend blood, no more having to lie on nthe ground pretending to be dead, you are. Yes, I cannot see any reason why elementary kids can't carry guns.

This is pure unadulterated BULLSHIT! No legislature in any state is debating whether or not to allow children to carry guns anywhere. Much less in school.

This is the kind of propaganda that is spread by the anti-gun lobby to deny us our constitutional RIGHT to the second amendment.

GODDAMNIT! I wish stupidity was painful!

no way!!! Why would carrying a gun to school make you safe?
Where would you need a gun? On the school bus, which drops you off at the front door? In the school itself? Or on the walk to the school bus? Is it the responsibility of a child to make themselves safe? or is it the parents responsibility to keep their kids safe?
