I would try to pull the drive itself out and put it into another enclosure. It may be that the electronics in the enclosure are fried and you just need to have them repaired or replaced. I wouldn't lose all hope yet.

No it isn't, try shutting your PC off completely from the back, wait about ten seconds and try again. Worst case scenario you can take it to a tech and they can retrieve the info for you. There is other ways but, a little more complicated.

Probably not. Take it out and try another enclosure or try sticking it in a desktop. If it still won't work, download a Linux live cd (preferable Ubuntu) and see if that will extract the files.

I can't help, except to say, I hope everything turns out ok!:)

if you had a power failure be sure and collect for your power company, and invest in a UPS for your next PC as for your hard drive, they are right mostly, take out and slave to another PC can be done, is the hard way or buy a small tool set up that allows you to transfer your information for one hard drive to another by the way of USB connection. the HD is set on counter, connected to this equipment, its pluged in to wall, then connected by way of USB to a good working PC and you information can be moved to that drive or a external drive etc. then when you get new PC or your computer is repair, transfer is back. can buy at Frys or most computer stores that carry parts for PC's

Well, I had once the same problem. Atleast the comp I had, had warranty. The guys at the workshop said, that the hard drive was broken and had to be replaced, no data could be saved no how. Sry. I now have a laptop, if powerfailure occurs, it can still run on battery.

Try connecting it to another computer. As far as I know (even though I'm no expert) there's other parts of the computer that are more fragile than an extrernal HDD, so as I see it, it's more likely that some part of the system which doesn't store data is fried than the actual HDD
