  • Psychosis implies a complete disconnect from reality that affects the ability to lead a normal and healthy life. Religious faith is a delusion that does not affect the ability to lead a normal and healthy life. A psychotic person can be religious, but most religious people are NOT psychotic.
  • Strictly speaking, fundamentalists and many who take aspects of religious belief literally are indeed delusional. That is not however quite the same as being psychotic, though certainly identification and treatment of those who are delusional in this way should be an option as they do constitute a danger to themselves and others under certain circumstances. It should also be born in mind that many sociopaths and what could be termed psychopaths are also able to function on a day to day basis, though not necessarily healthily.
